98 civic ex - engine won't rev in neutral
So I've posted before regarding my 1998 5 speed honda EX. I now have a different series of problems.
So I replaced the engine and clutch. The engine I have now is not a 5 speed vtech, which was originally in the car. The engine I have now is not a vtec engine. I will give the engine type once I go back outside
The problems with my vehicle after the new clutch are the engine won't rev in neutral. The speedometer doesn't work past 20 mph most of the time. The stays at 2k rpms when not moving. When moving car doesn't go above 50 without shaking. Car also shakes on gears 1-4 when I hit 2k rpms. Driven the car 600 miles since new engine was dropped. I'm lost at what the problem seems to be

Engine codes would be nice, check which ECU you're running as well. Then check your engine mounts, the shaking around 2k could be caused by loose mounts.

The engine that was placed in is a D15B. There are no engine codes going off. I'll have to check the engine mounts. I'm assuming the ecu I'm running is the original 98 vtech one

What specific D15B engine?
Does the CEL work?
Remove the passenger kick panel and read the label to determine what ECU is installed.

So I can't seem to upload pics from my phone. I'll try again. I still can't find where it will tell me what type besides the D15b

Re: 98 civic ex - engine won't rev in neutral
Is it the fuel efficient or performance VTEC D15B engine?
What ECU?
What's the head code?

Ok. That was crazy informative. So the engine says D15B 3005641
S4O-1768877
ECU info on side of box 37820-p2p-A34
921-340773
Cable above it says S04-A005

Re: 98 civic ex - engine won't rev in neutral
I missed that your first post stated the D15B is non-vtec. In this case, your D15B is likely the D16Y7 engine equivalent, which requires a P2E ECU. The current P2P ECU is for the original D16Y8 engine or the VTEC performance D15B engine. The P2P ECU should be throwing at least VTEC and knock sensor CEL codes. How did you check for CEL codes?

So the codes I have are P1508 and P0122. Also the person who put my motor in didn't tell me until after that it's not an American spec motor but a Jdm one. Which might explain all the things that at not connected. Also when I took it to emissions they couldn't pass it because of all the things wrong with it
