97 Honda Civic HX need to replace exhaust manifold, what fits?
Hey guys I have a 97 Honda Civic HX that I just smogged and it barely passed. Tech said that there's a crack in the exhaust manifold where the o2 sensor threads in causing air to come in and an inaccurate oxygen reading.
I was wondering what exhaust manifolds fit my car. I went on car-part.com and it looks like there are 5 different manifolds:
base & VTEC-E, Fed and Canada, MT
base & VTEC-E, Fed and Canada, AT
base & VTEC-E, Calif, MT
base & VTEC-E, Calif, AT
VTEC
I'm guessing base is non-VTEC (CX, DX, LX) and the HX share the same manifold? Is there much difference between Fed/CAN and CAL? How about AT vs MT?
Do only 96-00 fit, how bout 92-95?
I don't see why they were be different, but does anyone know?
Also, anyone have one of these lying around that they want to get rid of?

In CA, you don't really have a choice. The exhaust manifold is welded to the CAT. There are aftermarket CATs but most of them are not CARB approved. You may have to get a CAT from the dealer. I have 97 HX, there was an extended warranty program from the exhaust manifold. I think it was 150,000 miles and 10 years. I was way out the extended warranty program when replace my exhaust manifold.

I'm sure there are plenty of used headers off a DX/LX on these forums, so that's probably my best bet. I just need to make sure there's no diff between Federal and California, and AT and MT.

Don't hold me to this but if I'm not mistaken doesn't the y7 use the same one? I got the warranty extended on my 97 also and they've replaced the o2 sensor, tune up, change oil, clean egr ports and a new ecu as well. Evidentally the manifold cracking is a common problem and I've never checked mine but everything seems to be just fine and it's got almost 182k miles.

Y5 and Y7 are interchangeable. When I searched the Honda part number they were same as well for Fed and Cal. Most aftermarket CAT are not CARB approved.

If it is like the DX/LX engine, you can use a D16Y7 exhaust manifold that I know of, I am not sure about any others. Unless you want to upgrade to the D16Y8 (EX) manifold but to make it fit you need to extend the second o2 sensor, use an EX or Si cat, get the EX or Si exhaust piping and muffler. That is what I did with my old Sedan and it worked.

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 36264. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
