Default 97 civic - how to increase MPG?

I have a 97 Civic DX that gets about 35 mpg on the highway. It is 100% stock. What modification can I do to improve that up 40+ mpg?

Thanks in advance!!!

Full tune up could help (plugs, fuel filter, etc.). Also, a new cai could also slightly increase gas mileage. Your MPGs are heavily influenced by how you drive as well.

What kind of increase would I expect to see with a full tune up?

Convert it to EV might even give you eq. of 120+ mpg... 0-60 in 4.5sec... Only down side is just a couple of blocks range.. lol

95+ MPG

short of doing this, tune up and if you can't get a CAI even getting a better filter and cleainig the crap out of the stock airbox would make a difference, very small, but some

Inflate your tire pressures, steady acceleration (no jackrabbit starts), as everyone else said, full tune up, make sure you're not carrying around a bunch of junk that you don't need, etc. On my stock motor hatchback, I consistently get 42mpg's, and that's city driving. My car is lowered with rims and tires, but that's about it.

just depends on how bad your parts actually are so there isn't really anyway to know. I would start with the basics such as: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, clean the throttle body, and some seafoam in the tank to help clean the injectors.

If you need tires you can try less rolling resistance ones and tirerack has michelin green-x ones 185/65/14 size - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

but they have a few other low rolling resistance tires to choose from but the michelins were rated the best.

If this a coupe or hatch? also auto or 5 speed? I get over 40mpg daily in my 97 hx which is a 5 speed coupe. In the winter time they switch the gas so the mileage is always worse during the cold months.

My 97 is a DX auto Hatchback. I would expect that you would be 40+ with an HX since they are more fuel efficient models. What is "seafoam" for your tank?

Thanks!
