So, I'm officially fed up with the ghetto *** hack job wiring the previous owner did on this car, recently causing my car to not start, lose power on the left side of the car, etc. Almost every harness has a splice or random wires laying around unplugged or cut and re-attached to a point they're so short the almost don't fit. I'm done with patching small portions of the harnesses. I'm going to tear out my entire interior, and fenders, and re-wire this car properly.

The only thing's I am going to keep are the connectors from the harnesses. I obviously have to purchase a variety of colored wires, and write down which wires go where. I'm giving this car only the engine harness, interior/exterior lights, radio, and alarm. That is all.

I have a few questions regarding material though, for the wires, are there any specific wire brands I should avoid? I don't want to spend all this time doing this to have wires corrode or become frail and flimsy. I also plan on leaving test points readily open throughout the car for easy diagnosis of any future electrical problems.


Unless there is a website that sells the entire body harness that I could buy.(Everything from the headlights to the tail lights)

depends on how much you like/love this particular car,

me would sell it myself and put out a little more of my own cheddar to get a better body with the wiring all intact.

This is not how you want to enjoy hotrodding hondas, that is the wiring bull$#!T part.

You can get all of your wiring harnesses from there, but expect it to cost you a pretty penny. Alternatively, you could call up Rywire and get a brand new harness, made to better-than-OEM quality, and ready to be tucked. Still, expect it to be pricey.

I would just replace the harnesses.


I helped my buddy re-wire his DC from the head lights to the tails lights, and it was a PITA.


Replacing the harness would the easiet way to do it, IMO.

buying oem will cost you around $4000 for all new wiring. Rywire would probably charge about the same to make new harnesses for your whole car. Buy a junk car, and take the wiring out of it. I've bought a few parts cars, never paid more than $250

I'm never selling this car, so I don't mind taking the time on it. The price is the reason I don't want to buy new harnesses. And as for a donor car, the wires from the donor will be just as old and frail. The point of me doing this is to have fresh new wiring.

Can't be that hard, hold wire at ECU location, feed it where it needs to be, cut the wire, attach.

What I'd do is buy the harness from the junkyard. Lay them out on the ground/in your car if not your daily. Cut one wire at a time, solder/shrink wrap. Then run the wire on top of the other harness to get the lengths right. Then cut the other end, solder/shrink wrap. Repeat one wire at a time.

The crimping tools for the factory style plugs are like $500+, so you will still have the old wire to the splice point.

You'd be suprised how overwhelming it gets when you are looking at a rat's nest and consulting factory service manual, helms, internet and using a dmm to trace the wires.

Junkyard/Parts car wires could be in good shape. I recently tore down a '93 and the only wires that had deteriorated were by the engine and they were still decent.
It wasn't hard to pull the whole harness intact as I took the car apart.
Just sayin' take a look before you rule it out.

Hmm.. maybe the junkyard isn't too bad of an idea. It's hard to find hatches in the junkyards around here, especially ones that aren't already skeletons. I'll go this Saturday and see what they have.

I'm not junking my car either, the body is pretty solid and it's a clean car, just the wiring sucks is all.

I'm gonna have to make friends with a guy at the junkyard to give me a heads up when they get some civics in there lol.

Who knows maybe I'll find some goodies while I'm there. Last time I went I found an NRG quick release and steering wheel I got for $15

Good god. Trash the whole harness.

Buy a junk yard harness and check it for any issues before installing. Fix anything you don't like while it's out of the car. Will save a huge headache man.

^ Probably what I'll end up doing. I'll use a power probe to check for continuity and **** in each wire before I put it in the car. Still want to tear the interior apart and re-do a lot of things. Thanks for the input fellas. **** maybe I'll get the right ECU while I'm there (dudes running an auto ecu in a stick car)

I would go to the junktard and get a harness. Even if you can't find a hatch, you can use a coupes harness and still be better off than trying to make your own harness one wire at a time

When he doesn't sell it make him a offer!!! I do this all the time and usually get for a lot less. I bought a optional audio console for a 150 when he was asking 250, 125 for a p72 ecu when they wanted 250. You get the idea. Just bring up the fact they are 50-75 bucks in the junkyards.

Engine harness doesn't matter I'm swapping the motor soon, just need a few odds and ends
