Default 95 Civic VX VTEC-E D15Z1 to D16Z6 MINI-ME *help

I have a 95 Civic VX with a Vtec-e engine. I was wondering if I can put a d16z6 head.

* I think it is a OBD-1, would I need a converter or is it compatible with the p28 ecu?

* What would I need other than the d16z6 head and the p28 ECU?

* Would the d16z6 head just bolt on?

* Would I need a d16z6 timing belt or would i just use the same vtec-e belt?

* Does the vtec-e head use the same spark plugs as the d16z6?

I don't think your head is VTEC-E. However, if you do the z6 head on your 95 civic, all you'd need is the Z6 head, and get the Z6's ECU as well. It will bolt on, your already wired for VTEC, and research on here what belt to use, cause I don't know, I'm gonna guess your stock one, but tahts a guess.

95 vx is vtec-e D15z1, i think the belt is going to be one for the z6. you will also have to do the 5 to 4 wire 02 conversion.

i dont think there is one, but the wiring is simple to do so i have heard, i havent swapped mine yet, but will be soon. just search and you can find the conversion wiring diagram.

IT might just plug in. I'd say take a look at the wiring maps from both models and see what the difference is. Maybe you can get away without changing O2 sensors. . . if not you'll need the O2 sensor from the D16Z6.

The distributor is the same.

Timing belt should be the same for either motor.

Injectors from either would be ok.

Did I miss anything?

I am also wondering if by changing the head to a b16z6, will that make my car a 1.6L or will it remain a 1.5L?

d16z6, and no, the block determines displacement.

I doubt it, the o2 output is totally different, the p28 would be freaked out.

Oh word? I didn't know if the extra wire ran somewhere non-existant on the P28. My bad

The Displacement won't be affected, but the compression could be. I forget where to look to find this information.

The 5 wire is a wideband, outputs from 0-5 volts, 4 wire is only 0-1 volt, , gotta love d15z1.

i just read a mini-me writeup i found in the search funtion, and it was in very big BOLD writing that doing a mini me on the D15z1 was not a good idea, infact you would lose power because the compression ratio would drop so much, can someone confirm this, preferably someone with specs that can use a compression calculator.

Oh snap, that's true. It's because the z1 head has a small squash area or whatev it's called and the pistons are very bowled.

So it is a bad idea to put any head on my z1? Where did you get that information from?

Looking at pictures of the head, people who have done it, and general specs that are agreed upon pretty much universally.

What is the average cost for a full swap (block and head) for a d16z6 or a d16y8 and is it worth it?

What is your preference between the d16z6 and the d16y8?

Oh man.. Your compression is going to be so low. You should just save a little more money and get full swap.. You are not going to get much pwer if any w/ Z6 being it is going to drop your comp tremendously, which would be good for boost but not on VX rods ..

I paid 200 bucks for my z6 longblock that had under 100K on it, came with extra stuff too, guy kind of cleaned his garage out on me lol. I ran my z6 with the VX tranny for a year before i went B16. It was a great engine tranny setup for me since i was making 200mi trips every weekend .

We usually pay around $400-500 for a complete D16Z6 around here.
I'm in PA.

Default Re: 95 Civic VX VTEC-E D15Z1 to D16Z6 MINI-ME *help

i just got finished with my d15z1 to d16z6 minime swap. you have to use the z1 belt and tensioner. z6 tensioner won't let motor mount fit…

Im stuck on the o2 sensor and I don't want to replace wiring harness. Anyone know which wire is which? Hoping I can get away from doing the whole wiring harness. My harness is the 5 wire o2 sensor. I've got this 4 wire ready to go in….. was also think about getting a chipped ecu so I could just run a wide band just for me to keep a eye on.

Please give advice!!! any would be appreciated
