D16 piston rings on Vitara pistons?
hi, after doing some research I found out that Sidekick 1.6L 16V Pistons are same as Vitara Pistons So I went and got some at my local junk yard but I like to know if the D16 piston rings from Hastings will fit on my Vitara Pistons? I figure they will since it for same bore of 75mm but just wanna make sure before I decide to buy...

just the fact that they're 75mm same as D16 pistons tells you they'll fit. plus I already drop them on a spare D16 block I have and fits like it was born there.. by the way I got my answer on another thread here https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/more-info-suzuki-vitara-g16-pistons-954478/

um you have over 3,000 post and you didnt know that? do some research on that subject..vitaras are great for a budget turbo built d16..and there are some really nice number goals reached with them as well..and im talking up to 450whp and some higher numbers and lower numbers..really good cast piston for boost..and yes the rings will fit the vitaras but if you can just get your hands on the OEM vitara rings just get them

I can almost guarantee you they wont fit, vitaras have really thick ring lands (this combined with the fact that they're low compression is why guys love them for boost) btw, real vitara pistons are crap IIRC, it's the aftermarket ones you want.
Edit, actually 75mm civic rings are supposed to work.

well I'll give this stock Vitaras a try for now and hope they last.. I have a mini-me Y8 head on Y7 block and bent a piston rod on stock block, that's why im upgrading to Eagle rods with vitara pistons.. Engine is boosted as well.. Broke down running on 13psi..... I'm hoping to run safely at 18psi with the vitaras....

yes YCP are the ones people use..you got 75mm 75.5mm and 76mm to choose from..75mm is the standard bore of the bottom end so they will go right in with out a prob..and the only "machine work" youll need to put eagle rods in is block notching witch you can do yourself

Re: D16 piston rings on Vitara pistons?
VITARAS use a thicker ring so here are the specs ive found. so basically 92-95 d16z6 rings will work NO HASTINGS! (ring clearances are very loose) unless you plan to make a bunch of power and have high EGTS,. go with nprs or another (chrome/gas nitrides/pvd) based rings STAY AWAY FROM POLY TYPE RINGS
Premium Steel Material Chrome Piston Rings
Ring size 1.2x1.5x2.80mm, Bore diameter 75.00mm,Stock Compression Ratio
*FYI those pistons might be slightly different than those YCP/NIPPON brand ones so they might actually be smaller than STD 75MM by a little so that causes "piston slap" and ovals cylinder walls after time. and not sure about how those valve reliefs are so i guess you tried them so good luck i personally hate those pistons, and lastly i never really heard of any one using real -SUZUKI- pistons in there d16s so maybe 94eg is right and the aftermarket ones are better.

the new vitaras are actually 75mm so eh. but sometimes the looser the pistons the better for expansion rate and better for boost. based on cast. so would be better in some cases- again high horsepower =]
