Default 92 AC conversion question

I recently bought a 92 LX. It has factory air that doesn't work.

At some point someone "converted" it from R12 to R134a, but I have no idea if they flushed the oil or even removed the R12.

It won't hold pressure. I tried adding R134a and before long, the pressure was back to zero.

I'm planning to have the system check to find the leak and to flush out the oil.

The debate I'm having is about whether to refill it with R12 or R134a.

Does anybody know if the 1992s have barrier hoses that will hold the R134a?

(I'm in San Diego, so if I go the R12 route, I'm planning to take it to Tijuana to refill the R12).
