Default 2000 civic si stalling

This isn't my car it's my brother's, he was picking me up from school. Anyway, we were on our way home and while we were driving the car seems to kinda rock for a second (rocking as in when a new person is driving stick and they come off the clutch wrong and the car jerks back and forth), it was only a very quick 1/2 second jerk, nothing violent but just enough to notice. My brother wasn't even shifting when it happened. Then a block later we came up to a stop sign and had to stop because another car was passing and his car was at idle and then it stalled for no reason. So we were both confused and he started it up again and his car stalled again. After that he had to constantly rev the engine to keep it running so it wouldn't go down to idle and stall, the check engine light went on also. Vtec was still able to engage and he reved it up to 7000 at one point so i assume he could get to 8000 if that's relevant infromation. His car is a 2000 civic si with about 16,000 miles on it. His only mods are an aem short ram intake and he had a VAFC on his car about 2 months ago but he took it off (all he did was set the vtec engagement to 5100rpm and increase fuel delivery when he used it which was only about 15 times or so) and it has been fine up until now. O yeah the VAFC was on his car for about 7 months and he never had any problems with the car then. He put on his shortram intake a few weeks or a month after getting his car and he hasn't cleaned it yet and it is looking pretty dirty. I'm just taking guesses here but do you think the problem could possibly be that the intake is so dirty that it will not let enough air pass through at idle? My brother and I were also thinking maybe it was something with the spark plugs? but i figure that we can rule that out because the car only stalls at idle.
Also, I read about you guys always talking about ecu error codes, can you guys explain how to see what the error codes are and give me a site that lists what each code is? Thanks for any help people.
Sorry for the long post.

there's a plug near the ecu with a green cap. jump the two wires in the plug together. turn the ignition key until the dash lights come on, dont need to crank the car. watch the flashes. a long flash translates to "10's" , a short flash means "1's"

example,, two long flashes, five short flashes.

first long flash-- 10
second -- 10

short flashes --1
next one --1
next one --1
next --1
and last --1
--------------------
equals ------25 (10+10+1+1+1+1+1)

as far as what the codes mean, i dont know, just post a question with the code number and someone will be glad to help you.

hope i helped some.
