2000 civic Ex Smoking badly,
we got this engine outa a wrecked car. and the valves were very noisy and smoked bad after 3 weeks the smoke stayed. finnally it wouldn't start. he bent a valve and a spring. well last night i took the head off for him and seen black crap all on the pistons and the valves. how could i tell where its comming from. either piston rings or valve stem seals? how can i tell?

Re: 2000 civic Ex Smoking badly,
that would most likely be carbon build up or burnt oil. possibly bad rings, or just build up from normal wear and tear. time for a rebuild

Re: 2000 civic Ex Smoking badly,
I believe if its like a bluish smoke then its prob the rings, if its like a whitish black smoke then its to much fuel( I had that problem on my 00 si)
