1998 Civic D16y8 transmission stuck in gear
I was hoping someone could help us out with this problem that happened today.
98 Civic EX with D16y8 is stuck in gear even when it's in neutral. If he tries taking his foot off the clutch, the car yanks forward.
When he puts it in gear and tries to move, nothing happens. It won't reverse or go forward. But when its in neutral it wants to move forward like its in gear. He tried holding the clutch down and moving through the gears - it was kinda hard to put in 1st gear and it wouldn't go in 2nd unless he forced it. It went through the other ones fine. We had to push the car inside after that because it was time to eat turkey. Happy Thanksgiving

The bushings in the shift linkage could be bad. So when you move the shift handle it's not actually moving the rod on the transmission where it should go. You should be able to reach under the car and pull the rod at the transmission out to the middle position, that would be neutral.
