Default 1997 Civic CX S40 trans/clutch issues...

I'm going to hold off on buying parts for my build and take care of some more important issues with the car. My input shaft bearing is making a horrible noise noise when the clutch is engaged, so that much is a given. But i'm thinking it may be the culprit for a few other symptoms that I am trying to weed out.

In idle the bearing makes alot of racket. When accelerating, the noise gets worse and sounds like dragging something on gravel. In the higher gears with the slightest load on the engine, you can feel the car jerk a little bit and it starts making a metal to metal chirping. I can't tell if the chirping/jerking is the clutch, or drag on the bearing. I'm assuming since my ISB officially shat the bed, the seal is leaking and possibly leaking on my clutch. Another strange symptom is what feels like wheel hop when letting out the clutch from a stop with minimal throttle (again, clutch slipping?). Occasionally, at highway speeds, it will shut up for seconds at a time and sound normal and do this intermittently. Another wierd thing is, if i'm on an incline, and let out the clutch, it will bog down and almost stall, so I push the clutch back in and try again. This time, the clutch grabs when I barely let out the clutch. Also feeling some resistance going into third.

Just wanting some input on what I should inspect/replace and what your ideas are for what's going on in the inside. I would love to crack it open, but it's my daily and rarely have consecutive days off to give me some time to do this. I plan on making it happen before it gets too cold. Thanks!

How do you inspect these things if you can't physically inspect anything? As far as a slipping clutch, you'd know what it felt like if it was happening as it actually feels like slipping.

I meant inspect once I open it. Im not sure if I want to just replace the isb, or get a used ex trans from the salvage yard. I had a 3000gt vr4 with a slipping clutch from a bad seal, but would slip at high rpms and just rev. Not this problem here. I would hate to spend alot on this as I plan on swapping next year, just need it to last about 8 more months.

The ISB and/or one or more other main bearings are surely shot. When you drop the transmission to replace the bearings, also replace the clutch if you see any problems.

What can the ISB take out with it? synchros, other beaings, clutch, axle? In a worst case scenario obviously.

I would keep it general by saying clutch and transmission destruction.

Found a used trans on ebay, from a junkyard about 40 miles from here for $250. Might just grab it and order a new exedy oem clutch and call it a day. Damn bearing cost me a new hood and fender, lol. I'm so close to sending my hatch to the bodyshop to get the new front end fitted.
