hx has v-tec... its called v-tec e.... you wont feel a pull like regular v-tec... v-tec e hits like at 2500 to 3k rpm.. and also depends on how much the gas pedal is pressed
hx motor runs in 12 valve mode... then when v-tec e hits.. it uses all 16 valves.... well thats how i believe the hx motor works from research

Re: 1997 civic hx vtec motor help
you will DEFINATELY not feel a vtec pull like vtec does because its not a motor designed to make power it's designed for fuel economy. hx goes from 12 valve to 16 valve when vtec engages

Re: 1997 civic hx vtec motor help
i doubt you will feel anything at all. i am also running a hx motor y5 in my hatch.....i cant hear it or feel any pull......
the only hint i have that the v-tec is kicking is when im in 5th gear on the free way on a steady gas pedal....i will randomly feel a little sudden power gain (very little) while still steady on the pedal at a constant speed... afterwards it cuts off... i assume its the v-tec coming on switching from 12 to 16 valve during the uphills and cutting off on down hill..... the power gain feels like pressing in the gas pedal another 5cm? but who knows.... like everyone says wire up a v-tec light....

5 speed or cvt? Both of mine are 5 speeds and I can notice it when it's engaged just driving and not looking at the tach. I'm sure most people wouldn't notice it that much. I've had the 97 for 12 years and it's still going strong with 190k.
