Default 1993 Civic EX intermittent start problem

Hey guys,

I've been cruising the different forums trying all of the suggestions to no start problems with my year civic and so far the issue still remains.

I have a '93 Civic EX Manual trans. with a D16Z6 stock motor. For the past week I have been having problems starting the car. It will start up sometimes others not.

When it does start, everything seems normal, turn the key, the oil light, brake light and CEL turn on, all the relays click, fuel pump primes, then the CEL turns off and I can turn the car over.

When it doesn't start, I turn the key, i hear the first part of the main relay click, the oil light brake light and CEL SOMETIMES come on, other times they are very dim or don't turn on at all. The starter cut relay clicks when I turn the key to start and if all the lights worked, the starter motor makes a loud click. If the lights didn't work, then nothing other than the starter cut relay clicks.

I have checked the fuses, relays, replaced the main relay, new starter, checked the ignition lock cylinder for continuity, battery is new and has decent charge, 12V+ to the starter is good ground looks good.

It seems that if I come to it in the morning it starts up a few times, but eventually after four or five tries it stops starting with the above symptoms.

I've not had it out on the road in the last couple of days because it also has an issue with shutting down at stops. I say shutting down and not stalling because it doesn't make any sputtering it just stops running, If you have music on you can't even tell until you try and move again.

Any thoughts or things to check?

Thanks

Start here:

Wire-brush clean and tighten the battery connectors, as well as the G1 battery ground attached to the chassis, the G3 ground on the transmission, and the G101 ground on the thermostat housing.

Wow, i feel rather silly for not checking these sooner. All three points were rusted or otherwise unclean. Seems to have done the trick though the car starts every time, and I get way better voltage to the battery while the car is running.
Thanks RonJ
