00' civic Brake Light Switch problems
Hi all, first post. Came out of the grocery store and couldn't shift from park. Checked the brake lights, they do not come on when the pedal is pressed. Took a look, noticed a black wire dangling near the switch assembly. Not sure if this is from the switch or just a random wire. Everything else working ok. Any advice on the mystery black wire or replacing the switch would be much appreciated. Thanks!

No, it isn't stuck in. It pops right back out like it should, which lead me to believe it has something to do with that mysterious detached black wire. But i don't clearly see anywhere it might've come from.

Have you checked the brake light fuse under the hood?
There's no black wire under the dash for the brake lights. Use a multimeter to test whether the brake light switch fails to close when the pedal is pressed.

thanks for the tip, will try tomorrow. I suppose my main concern is that it will not shift from park without putting the key in the release slot.

Same problem on my accord. Would this fuse also cause the brake lights to not come on even after I manually override the shift lock? Because just like putzkrieg the switch goes back and forth when the brake pedal is pressed just like it is supposed to.
