[FAQ] DIY 94-01 Integra Maplight in 92-95 Civic
This is a followup to Airbag Club's DIY EK Maplight thread. The following can be done in your EK, but the 12v wire color may be different. Also, this will not work with 92-95 Civic EX or Si because of the sunroof motor.
Integra maplights can be found on eBay for about $15-20 shipped.
Items needed
- Maplight assembly, Part #34256-ST7-003ZD (Beige) or 34256-ST7-003ZA (Grey)
- 18-20 gauge wire
- Soldering iron and solder
- Wire stripper (I prefer to use a razor blade)
- 1 female space connector
- 1 ring terminal
- Cardboard
- Box cutter, razor blade, or EXACT-O knife
- Black, blue, red, pink, purple, or whatever color pen
- Flathead screwdriver
1. Take your maplight and on the back, you will see flat metal pieces on the left and right side. Use a small flathead and pry those out slightly. Cut about a ~7-8" strip of wire and another ~4" strip. Strip about 1.5" at one end of the 7-8" strip and same with the 4" strip. Wrap the stripped end around the flat metal plates and twist them together. Take the other end of the 4" strip and strip off about .5" and bridge the other flat metal plate by wrapping the 4" strip with the 7-8" strip. Solder your wires. These are your grounds.
2. Cut a ~2-3' piece of wire and crimp on the female spade connector onto it.
3. Take a piece of cardboard and make a 5" x 1 1/16" retangular template. Cut it out.
No picture, self explanatory
4. Take that template and trace it onto the headliner, wherever you please (centered or off-centered, up to you).
No picture, self explanatory
5. Take your box cutter, razor blade, or EXACT-O knife and cut along the inside of your outline.
6. Pull your interior fuse or negative side of your battery.
7. Remove your a-pillar by prying to the left side first.
8. Remove your driverside sunvisor and sunvisor bracket.
9. Splice and solder the ~2-3' wire to the white/blue wire running alongside your a-pillar and run it inside your headliner to the hole you just cut out.
10. Connect the female spade connector to the maplight.
11. Crimp a ring terminal onto the ground wire coming from the maplight and use the bolt for the sunvisor bracket for the ground.
12. Install the maplight. If you cut the headlight correctly, the maplight will fit snuggly.
13. Reinstall all interior pieces removed and the interior fuse (or battery terminal).

Yes, it is. Way brighter than the dome light. It's very convenient.

nice write up. also on 92-95 si will have the brackets under the headliner so instead of soldering wires to the negative side as you screw it on those hole have a metal lining and that is your negative ground and all you do is connect a positive wire to the other tab.
i use this personally. i can get another one if anyone is interested $85 shipped and fits 92-95 civic's that have a sun roof (double check to make sure you have the brackets under the headliner)

the one im getting from japan is coming of a 95 civic sir II hatch. used, working with bulbs. this was an optional item did not come standard. will only work with sunroof cars due to the larger indentation/swoop in the headliner.

look at the motor.. its located to the rear of the sunroof.. are you sure the motor would be in the way?
