Trouble with transmission range sensor?? Engine doesn't crank... Civic 2007
Hi! This is my second Thread, I still don't know if there is a "new post" button or if it is the same, well, whatever.
Thanks for solving my previous question way back, so here's a new one:
The thing is that my mom's 2007 civic ex AT began failing to start sometimes, so we found out that switching from "Parking" to "Neutral" allowed the engine to crank, but that solution is gone because it no longer starts in whatever position we put it.
And also some time ago, when I put the key on (the cluster lights are on), the gear selection light showed "Parking" and "Drive" lighted on at the same time and then after like 3 seconds it showed just "Parking". Then some dude told me that the range sensor had gone bad, so I bought one from the dealer (just the sensor, not the harness also) and replaced it, then the car started after a few tries, but it shows the same sympthoms as before and it doesn't crank anymore... So my question is... Have someone had this problem before and know the way around it? Or if you have a guess of where I can continue searching for something I will appreciate it...
I checked the harness for contamination because the connector had a lot of grease around but not inside, also the cables are not touching each other or anything...
Well Thanks in anticipation... any help will be appreciated!!

Is it throwing a CEL code? That range sensor seems to have some adjust-ability, maybe its not set right.

It isn't and haven't throwed a CEL code, actually I have tried with the adjustability, first just as the previous sensor was, then all the way to the left, also all the way to te right with the last 2 options having some trouble to engage gears, but for now I'll continue searching for that "sweet spot" maybe it's just that. btw thanks for your help, and if anyone has another guess, feel free to leave a reply...!

Np... You might have to bite the bullet and take it to the stealership so they diagnose the transmission light..

When you adjusted it did you line the groove of the range switch up with the groove on the transmission. Using a small metal ruler or pick works fantastic.

Thanks folks! It has been solved, I mean the "P" and "D" light up when you put the key on, but the engine does crank, so I think that pattern of lights might be usual, I just put the new sensor on in the same position that the old one was (tried with multiple positions) and the lights were there but the engine started... thanks again!

the problem came back again, but I found out there was an issue with the starter, so it was pretty tricky cause both things came together to seem like just one alone
