Honda Civic 2007 automatic misfires cylinders 1 and 4
My check engine light started flashing and my car at top speed was going about 45 mph or so. Mechanic ran diag test and said that cylinders 1 and 4 had misfire codes so after 5 hours of sitting at the garage and replacing coils and plugs it turns out that my old parts were working fine and per the mechanic it is a computer issue that Honda has to recode in the PCM or something to that effect. Has anyone ever heard of this? I was quite happy with the honesty and the mechanic charged me nothing, not even the money for the diag test which was $100. Why can only a Honda dealer get into the computer?

Proprietary software update only the Honda computer can do. Depending on the dealer they usually charge $100-300

I had something like that happen to my Suzuki, but it turned out it was nothing. We were thinking the cold weather may have gotten to it b/c the check engine light ended up turning off by itself off. But they told me at Auto Zone that it could be a clogged vacuum hose or a bad/dirty spark plug. Or, like in my case, it may have just been a fluke.
