civic lx versus civic si
hi there, im looking to buy a civic next month, ive always owned nissans so im a little lost when it comes to the difference. My friends keep telling me to get an si, im not too happy with the gas mileage ratings so therefore my question is...what are the differences between an si and an lx is it just the motor and transmission or is there more?

Re: civic lx versus civic si
no comparison really. lx is your basic economy car. Si is a tuned version that has much better performance on par with many sports cars. Which years are you looking at? the 06-10 is better than the new one in many peoples opinion. 200hp vtec, 6spd trans with LSD, the car is a blast to drive, is pretty quick and handles great.

any that are 10 grand and under lol im looking to pay cash for it. im just curious though because i currently drive a 240sx with a dual cam ka its way more power than i need in a car, im basically just looking for better fuel economy out of a vehicle.

well i mean for me i want a car that gets good fuel mileage but something that doesnt handle like a boat, power isnt important just how the car handles and what kind of fuel mileage it gets

the lx will handle good enough for what you need... Yes the Si will handle better and is faster but you clearly want something which will be good of saving gas!

ok sounds good, i just wondered if it had a better suspension than say the lx, if that was so then i would get an si and bare the small amount extra i would spend on gas

Re: civic lx versus civic si
I honestly have to ask - did you do any research on the two models at all before starting to shop cars? Because it doesn't seem to me you did anything at all.
The LX is a economy car that runs regular fuel and gets good MPG.
The SI is a performance oriented car that runs premium fuel and gets okay MPG.
Everything on the SI is geared towards performance when compared to the LX. That's why the motor is different, why it isn't available in automatic transmission, the tires are different, seats, etc.
Maybe you should just go test drive them.

i did do research the thing is, it doesnt say wether the si and lx have different suspension i would never own an automatic car and i know that the si runs premium im just more curious about suspension than anything. for instance ive owned a sentra before, where the rear on the 1.6L was an i beam and the 2.0 was an independent rear i suppose thats what im asking is the suspension drastically different because i cannot find any reference to it being

You could have looked up part numbers on Majestic Honda's site or any other number of resources.
The swaybars, struts, springs, brakes, wheels, tires, etc are all different between the two models.

Op still hasnt even clarified what generation he is interested in...
Post #2 assumed he was looking at 06-10 and everyone kinda just went with it.
Not gonna find a decent 8th gen(if thats even what your looking for) for 10k or less. I browsed for a sec and found a private party, salvaged title 2006 si coupe for $10,500. All the others go for around $15k

Re: civic lx versus civic si
The Si is better in every way. Yes the suspension is much better on the Si. The interior, aesthetics, LSD, everything....
It really just comes down to if you just want a "car" to drive point A to B. Or something a bit better you can have fun in, enjoy the nicer interior trim, crack VTEC, etc.... It's really a pretty easy decision as these cars really don't compare except that they are both named Civic and made by Honda.
