2007 EX: Power Steering Leak
My wife has a 2007 EX Coupe with manual transmission, around 100k miles. It has the conventional hydraulic power steering setup. For the last few weeks, it has had a fairly heavy power steering fluid leak. The level gets low enough in 1 week to start groaning.
I can't see exactly where its coming from, but it appears to be right around the pump. That area is very compact as it is right up against the chassis, in the back corner of the engine bay.
Has anyone else had an 8th gen civic with power steering issues? I can't seem to find much info at all on the web. There was a TSB issued for some 2006 Civics for a leaking inlet pipe, but ours is an '07 http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/sa...tin_06-020.pdf
Street price for a new replacement OEM pump is almost $200, and reman units are between $60-130. I'm not sure if it is the same arrangement, but on V6 Hondas like our 07 Pilot, the O-ring behind the pump is a common issue, with a TSB and revised part to fix. In that case however, air leaks in and makes the noise, but it doesn't lose fluid.
I think I'm going to tackle this myself. Normally this is an easy job but the pump is so far back in the corner I'm not sure how to access it, may be much easier on a lift (which I don't have). The link above does have a nice repair procedure.
I'll first get everything very clean and see if I can't pinpoint the leak source. I'd appreciate any guidance the forum could provide on determining the fault or replacing the pump. I'll document here how it went.

Re: 2007 EX: Power Steering Leak
Easy fix. The o-ring on the reservoir side of the pump was bad. This same o-ring goes bad on many Honda/Acura models, I've had to replace it on my Pilot as well.
Just pulled the RF wheel, and could access the small o-ring housing from under the car through the well. Used a mitivac to empty the reservoir.
Once the housing was removed (single 10mm screw), then pulled the line from the top.
Swapped o-rings, put everything back together. About 30 minutes total.

Re: 2007 EX: Power Steering Leak
Hey Matt,
Thank you very much for posting both the same question I have and also the answer/solution to it. I plan to diagnosis my 06 Civic with this issue tomorrow. I do not have any whining or difficulty steering. My PS rack is dry, no leakage. My PS res has slowly been losing fluid and I notice it on my driveway. I know it is PS fluid based on the smell, texture, and the fact that it is wet around the pump. I assume my o-ring is bad and that it is slowly leaking out, traveling down the pump and onto the ground.
Based on the link you provided did you replace the O-ring inside the inlet pipe?
Thank you!
