Default 2006 - 2010 Civic Type R brakes on a FA5

Does anyone know if CTR calipers and rotors will fit a FA5, or are they dimensionally the same? I want to upgrade to the Type R mono-block calipers and vented rotors, but cannot find any part numbers or dimension criteria. Any one out there have an answer?!!!

I would imagine it's like up grading corvette brakes you would need the calipers and the brackets and the new rotors.

I'm sure mounting them on a honda would be the same setup.

Yes, I understand the mechanics of it, I am just curious if anyone has tried this and if so, where did they get the parts?

If you want some brembos your best bet would be Acura tl type s calipers. You can find them anywhere, eBay, craigslist, the marketplace here.

Hi mate the p/no for the honda access slotted rotors for an fd2-r are 08P88-SNW-000A and then the same again with B replacing a at the end for the far side. i still have the box there from my car when i imported from japan. the disc height is 320mm by 25mm accross.

i hope this helps somewhat.

Ok, I have all of the hardware to complete the Type R brake conversion to a 2010 FA5.

Brembo GT calipers sourced from a Type R in Japan from a very good friend.
Honda OEM S2000 front brake rotors.
350z pads.
Goodridge stainless braided lines.
H&R 25mm DRM wheel spacers to allow me to keep my Si OEM wheels ( +43mm offset ).
Pics to follow. This is just a fitting mock up, the work will be done while I am on my summer holidays.

The mocked up set up, full weight bearing on the rims. Note, the suspension hasn't resettled yet from coming down off the Jack.

The new brakes versus the old ones. Notice that rotor diameter hasn't changed.

The offset brings the wheels out thanks to the DRM spacers. Tread pattern is still inside the fenders, just.

A front on view of the tires as they sit with the spacers.

Lastly, the old wheel offset as seen on the original set up. It is going to be interesting learning to corner with these new brakes and spacers...

Lol, sorry but my phone is an iPhone 5S, I am still learning how to adjust image size with it. You got both barrels I'm afraid!!

I will do a step by step pictorial as the work is done.

Is there any reason to get these over the Acura TL type s brembo brakes ? I am looking into getting the Brembo brakes for my 9th gen because I get a very good hook up on OEM Honda parts. I can basically get them new for less than what people sell them for used.

The TL-s calipers would be as good. I got these calipers straight out of Japan from a very good friend. That is the only reason I went on this quest.

Just buy a pair of used Spoon Monoblocks from someone. Save yourself the hassle.

The Type-R calipers are dual piston in comparison to the Spoon being a monoblock...

They are great brakes for sure too but for the money not sure it's the best option.

Honestly I would go with the TSX caliper as it's a bigger caliper and the brake pads are wider also and the discs has a larger cooling vent in the middle.

None the less as long as the option fits your budget just go for it. SS lines and upgrade brake fluid is a must!

The GT Brembo calipers bolt up straight to the stock hub, and they are allowing me to retain the stock wheels along with the DRM spacers.

I have two sets of wheels that I didn't want to change for a larger diameter set. The Spoon calipers might be the mono lox ( who can turn those down!!) but I checked their design and they require an adapter to bolt up to the hub. I am not a fan of those. These are my preferences. I am not going to make my Si a dedicated track car, but I do want to try a few laps sometime.

And this is within my budget.

I am truly sorry folks, I was not able to document the install as I was doing the work. I was working with a good friend and kept my phone away from the work area. But as promised, I took some pis after we got cleaned up.

Sorry for the image size, I am not a photographer.

The rear wheel with the DRM spacer to keep the wheels aligned, no brake mod here yet!!
