Re: Transmission not engaging - '04 Civic
If line pressure in the AT has been reduced by clutch debris, then the AT will no longer shift due to design of shifting via hydraulic pressure. Only reasonable decisions IMO are to rebuild with proper components or part with the vehicle at this stage of its useful life. I had this experience with a 2001 Odyssey at 100K miles at 14 yrs and decided to part with it rather than rebuild.

I'm currently having these issues with my 04 it will not engage but when I put it in park and shut it down for a few seconds it goes in drive in reverse for a little while than it goes back to acting like it's in neutral in every gear

Sounds like clutch debris has worn to the point that it is clogging ports, solenoids and internal ATF filter and restricting fuild pressure for the trans to work. Unpleasant decision time...

My 01 Civic had the same issue.
When cold it would work for a short period of time.
Had 179,000 miles on it and it was shot, internally.
I replaced the tranny with a 40,000 mile JDM transmission.
It works perfect but the CEL is on and I believe the P0741 -Torque converter clutch is the reason.
The Jap tranny is not the same as the US so the CEL will remain on.
It don't bother me.
It had a BMXA tranny in it originally, known to fail, and replaced with a SLXA from JDM California.
