Default Skipped time belt??

My 2001 Honda civic recently crapped out on me and although a few people have said the time belt the information I'm finding online doesn't sound right. The car was working fine up to and prior to it breaking down. She was making a scraping noise for a day or two before but I was told it sounded like the fuel pump. The day it crapped out I parked her for five minutes and when trying to start her she wouldn't roll over. Took three attempts. Once home same thing. Then she would start but she was Shaking and within seconds stalled out (I should say she's automatic) she catches, she starts, she spits and sputters, and then she stalls.. Is this really the timing belt?? Or is there a possibility of something else??

How many miles on the car, and have you ever had the timing belt replaced?

At 176,000 km's you're supposed to replace the timing belt, so its not impossible that the belt was worn out and needing replacement.

When you say it was making a "scraping noise", where was the noise coming from?

Pull belt cover and check, until you do we can guess all day what may be wrong, it can be a number of things, start by confirming it is or is not a timing belt problem. 94
