Default Civic 04 VP manual - swap insturment cluster?

My first post here.

Just got a 04 Civic VP 5spd. It's got the simple instrument cluster with no tach

I was reading other posts about swapping an 03 LX cluster into my car and that it was a simple swap without any re-wiring.

Is this correct?

I'm looking for the most easy swap I can make to get a tach into my cluster.

thanks a lot in advance for any help

Yes that is correct I have an 04 vp also easiest way to do it how ever your miles will not match up! So keep you old one if you plan on selling the car.

Thanks for the quick response,

I was reading through a really long post from a couple of years ago and they were talking about having to repin the connectors, punching out the pins with paper clips, etc.

that's not really something I want to get into.

There are so many combination's though (VP, LX, 03, 04, Auto, manual, w side air bags, w/o side air bags, etc.), I want to try to make sure I get some combination that will just plug n play without repinning.

So a couple more questions;
  • from what I've seen an 03 LX w/o air bags should plug right in? right?
  • does it matter if the LX is 2dr or 4dr? (I'm guessing 2Dr is better to stay Red)
  • does it matter if the LX is manual or auto (if its auto what will happen to the P R N D L lights)?

I'm just trying to learn from all the experience of others to make this go right since this is something I've never done before.

thanks again for any help or insight

The only problem I had when installing a orange coupe cluster in my 2001 sedan back in 2002 was the ABS diode/led, had to cut the led, as was constantly illuminated. If you have side air bags, you will need a cluster that can suport that function. I remember from my dealer days that a tech wanted to put a non side air bag cluster in a car with side air bags, as it was a US market car, and we could not get a cluster with side air bags through Honda Canada Inc, this set off the SRS light, so we had to get a US market cluster ordered in from American Honda.

He has a vp so no side air bags so he should be ok there. You shouldn't have to repin any thing 03 cluster. Now idk about the srs?
