Default DIY: K20/K24 Swap into a 2001-2005 Civic

Click here for the DIY... i have it sitting on my server
xproductionz.com*-*xproductionz Resources and Information.
Since website is no longer available, I have uploaded a PDF of the web page. Please see attached. -toyomatt84

As i go along let me know if i missed anything so i can add it in
Also if anyone has some pics i can add then that would help too

UPDATED 3/5/2006

**also note that the same thing applies to people who do the k24 swap. Just remember that if you use a k24 that the tranny side mount is different from the k20 tranny mount. If you already have a k20 in your car and wish to use a k24. Hasport and i think Hybrid can supply only the k24 tranny mount so that way it sits the motor lower so it can fit in our cars

***also note that i did find out that the 04-05 civics have the in-dash c101 clip rewired from that of the 01-03. I am in the process of finding out the solution for you 04-05 owners. If anyone has figured it out please do let me know so i can put it up

Great post, I will definately need this. However, I think that the $3,900 beyond the price of the engine seems a bit high. Some of the stuff listed such as hondata is not necesarally needed, other things like throttle cable you can get guys to throw in with the swap. I am budgeting 6K if I go with the K20a2 and hondata + intake, flywheel, clutch and 7K if I go with the K20a + intake, flywheel, and clutch. How much did you really spend, it sounds like you did it the cheapest way possible? Also how hard was the DIY wireing?

well you gotta remember each resource was different....well?? define cheapest way possible???.. cause i mean if going to a junkyard and getting parts is cheap then i am cheap... .. also i didnt say it was required to have hondata... if you look at it i have it under the OPTIONAL section....but i was on a budget and so forth at the time plus it was my only car so i needed it up and running ASAP.... but now some of the stuff dont apply to me anymore... like now i got stage 2 axles... aluminum radiator to come in a few weeks and t-fal fans...so if your on a budget get what you need to get it running and then upgrade along the way... but if you got the money do it all at once...

but i bought that motor way back in ending 2003 beginning of 2004 and i bought it for $2500... complete motor with tranny... no subframe, cables, shifter assembly and so forth and so forth... and the prices i have listed is what i bought everything else for.. with some quotes from my local acura dealer

Man this write up is amazing. I am completely new to tuning, and this weekend my friend and I(also a noob) were able to drop in a k20... we get to dyno tommorow. We ran into a few snags with the wiring, but that wasnt anything to do with our right up. it was more just a fit of anger....lol big time props for this. Ill post pics if needed

Does anyone know the changes in the '04-'05 C101 clip yet? I am doing this swap in a few weeks and need to know this. Also, I don't understand why the harness needs to be re-wired anyways, considering a K20 harness comes with the motor, same with the ECU, shouldn't they just work together the way they are? Thanks

OK I think I found my own answer. The C101 clip plugs into a separate harness in the dash, and not directly to the ECU? Am I right on this?

The C101 does not plug directly into the ECU.

No special edition doesn't have anything under the hood that is different from the rest of the ex.

The only thing our special edition edition has over the regular EX/DX is our rims, deck, and that special edition emblem on the rear.\

And yes. I drive a 2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition

I have a question. I have an automatic civic ex 03, and i want to do a k24 engine swap and at the same time i want to do a auto to manual conversion done too. Would i be able to buy a manual ecu and get a duplicate key done to match the ecu so there is no issues when its time to start up? Do i have to go anywhere particular to get this done like Honda or my local race shop should be able to?

I was wondering if it was possible to use an Automatic tranny from the standar K20A with the K20A Type R

You may want to head over to the forum we have dedicated to K-series.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/k-series-153/

I do not know of an automatic transmission that was ever mated to a K20A. Do you mean K20A3?

In the write up it says the wiring hasn't been tested with a k24? Or is the wiring on a k24 and k20 the same? Any help would be appreciated
