Default Advice needed ECU/wiring harness after engine swap

I'm looking to swap out my D17a1 engine from my 2004 Honda Civic LX for a D17a2 engine from an EX. I need to change the ECU and get a wiring harness that matches it. Can I get any ECU that matches the engine's description or do I need to get a certain part number? Also, what kind of wiring harness should I be looking for?

Not an expert but I axed a similar question and I was told that you need the harness and ecu from a vtec car. I believe the harness has 1 extra wire for vtec solenoid. You'll have to reprogram the new ecu to accept the your current keys.

Well that makes sense. Thank you! Do you know where to find them by any chance?

ebay. local junk yards. car-part.com is a searchable inventory of junk yards around the country. find the part and call em up.

I believe the harness/ecu can come off any vtec car from 2001-2005.

I forgot to add, I was also told that you can install a vtec engine in a non-vtec car with no issues even if you stay with the same non-vtec harness/ecu. The only difference is the vtec won't work. So it'll run exactly like a d17a1.

prodjay is correct
Im not no expert either, but my mechanic did this for me. JDM d17a into my LX
And its been 1 year and still running fine. He said don't need new ecu or harness just leave the vtec unplugged.
Runs better than d17a1 originally in my LX, but no vtec will kick in

no CEL, no problems, same good mpg

ps. save your money and go my route, but if you want the vtec, I assume yes you would need the vtec ecu and harness for a EX d17a2 (01-05), and reprogram keys
