I currently have a 05 2-door civic LX with the D17A1 engine and it has a hole in it so i'm looking everywhere for an engine. I've found one on craigslist but its from an 03 civic and it doesn't have an EGR valve. I'm wondering if I could just use my EGR valve with or if i flat out am not able to install it on that engine.

It may run right but I doubt it because it'll be constantly looking for the EGR... and no way will it pass emissions.

I did it. Swap the water outlet to the one with EGR and change the metal intake manifold gasket to one with EGR ports and it works fine. Just be sure that putting an older engine than the car in is legal where you live. Also you will need to swap the O2 sensors because the 01-03 is narrow band and 04-05 is wide band. Best of luck man.
