02 civic ecm swap
02 ex coupe. My car stalled out check engine light came on.. turned car on my car was in limp mode. Took it to autozone they could not read the code. Would not connect to ecm. I checked a few forums they stated about loose Alternator. I check it was loose I grounded it and tighten up the bolts.. I bought a new ecm took it to a locksmith to program the key with the new ecm said they couldn't do it maybe because of my check engine light was on. I put tr old ecm back.in drove to autozone had them scan the new ecm no codes came out. how do i clear the check engine on old ecm so I can install new ecm and program key? Or did i miss something I might need to do?

You either need to take your car to honda because they are "usually" the only people with the factory honda key code software in most areas. Or you can buy an immobilizer from an rsx. No matter what you do your old ecu is garbage and the new one just wants to see the right key code

I guess I shouldn't of said from but for an rsx haha. But Ive seen them work on these civics. There's a couple places that sell them so you can shop around. I went with this route cause I'm not really concerned with someone taking the time to cut a key to steal a little civic.

Re: 02 civic ecm swap
Yeah it worked perfect for my girlfriends car the codes are completely irrelevant, they were erased when it got unplugged from the car. Like I said all that new ecu is looking for is its key from the car it was taken out of so with that immobilizer thing your basically making it always think the right key code is there so it will start with any key cut for your car. The ecu is transmission specific so either auto or 5 speed
