01 civic heater problem
hey im new to the site but i just had a question that maybe someone could help me out with..
i have a 2001 honda civic ex and ever since last year i have been having some heater problems. it takes forever for the heater to blow hot air and when it FINALLY does it kind of gives off a funny smell and then if i go to a stoplight or idle it goes right back to cold. It gets very frustrating on very cold mornings because the heater finally starts working right when i pull into work.
Now i know that it could be a couple of different things but what i am hoping is that it is just the thermostat being stuck open and NOT a block in the heater core. But i am figuring that if something was stuck in the heater core it would never heat up would it? If someone could give me some insight and let me know what they think it could be or if they have had this problem before i would really appreciate it. I like to fix all of my cars myself and the guys at the shop i work for don't even want to look at the car because its a "honda"--Thanks!

Re: (toyomatt84)
does your car heat all the way up on the temp gauge you 2? if it doesnt , than its a thermostat sticking open. that or you guys have a summer thermostat running in cold winter. if temp gauge sits at normal place and you still got no heat , heater core. if your car overheats but doesnt blow heat , thermo is stuck shut.
i have an 01 as well , and im running a summer thermo as well , my car does same thing once in a while as well. i can start my car cold morning , let it run for 20 minutes , come out and it still hardly showing on the temp gauge. pushing warm air , not hot.
