My first FG project.....Fugen replica wing
I posted this in paint and body, but also thought it was worthy of being in this forum as well
So owning a del sol, there's not many aftermarket body parts offered that look great.
One exception to this rule IMO is the mugen wing, but at an average cost of 1200 for a real oneit's just simply not worth it IMO. Luckily TSC was having a GB on REPLICAS of this wing. The only 2 things I didn't like about it being a replica was:
1/I'd have to drill into my CF trunk for it to be mounted SAFELY(could've just used double sided tape on all 4 mounting areas, but then someone could EASILY remove it and walk away ) so I got over that
2/ they left the badge area there and even included a mugen badge ....so I decided to fix that:
The one thing that I truely hate is people getting replica/knockoff anything and then making it look real by puting stickers/bages on it. That goes from anythoing from wheels to wings. I am not against replicas....if I was I wouldn't have bought the wing....what I am against is people "faking the funk"
here's the info on my FUGEN(fake mugen ) wing:
-bought with TSC GB for 450
-Your's truely shaved the badge area myself
-shaving the badge area was about 8-12 hours or so of work spread out over 2 or 3 days(waiting for FG to become sandable)
-I used rattle can from pepboys which amazingly except for still lacking a clear coat is a dead match
here is my entire process:
The beginning and 1st layer
Damn straight!
OMFG…..what did this clown just do?!??!?!?!?!?!?! LOL
Decently thick….not sure how many layers…maybe 3 or so(?)
Life would be so much easier if it was solid or at least foam filled
Cut out piece wrapped in FG mat and letting the devcon epoxy already curing
EEK that’s a big hole :frustrated:
End of phase 1 FG resin just layed down on top of FG mat and original piece that was cut out(now upside down so as to be filled in and leveled off that way)
Stage 2:
updated pics.....added abotu 4 layers to sunk in area.....very close to being flush....once it's a little more I'll start the "REAL" sanding....right now all I've been doing is brushing over the area with 220 so the next layer(s) will adhere well.
NOTE: the entire area of brown will be sanded down to be the original height off the wing....I'll remove MOST of that tommorrow
no in-between layer pics from yesterday but here's the 3 I snapped a few minutes ago:
rear view:
underside view:
front view:
FINAL TOUCH UP AND PRIMING:
Round 1 of putty:
Putty lightly sanded(not featheredged yet):
I can’t seem to find any final in between pics for this section either….could’ve sworn I took some oh well,…..ON TO PRIMING
I like my car's body parts like my women.....CLEANLY SHAVEN
another shot:
why does this wing make everything around it look so damn sexy? :
PAINTED:
Will be installing it when I get back from big bear the day after xmas.....but paint is pretty much done(might do one more coat and need to touch up a few areas)
topside:
bottom:
close up of color:
and it was done with duplicolor royal blue:
INSTALLED:
Rear view(yes I did some wetsanding on it)
Driverside angle:
Side shot(will be getting the double sided 3M automotive tape to fix that small gap on the center pedestals)
positve comments welcome, haters can stick a their butt

because even though the car was painted in febuary, I plan to have the whole thing redone later this year(same color) due to ES doing a poor job on some of the body work.
I normally hate rattlecanned parts too, but when it matches as closely as this does to the rest of the car who really cares.....it'll look even closer when I take it off and throw some clear on it

lol sorry guess I should've put fiberglass instead of FG, I just figured since I see FG more than fiberglass and CF more than carbon fiber everyone would know.
didn't even think about chasis codes

good stuff Sean. sorry if i'm chiming in a bit late, but i just found this thread. LOL.
i like how you took off the Fugen badge. they should have made these with the option of having it off in the first place.
so everything fits perfectly? can't really tell from the pics, but are there any gaps or fitment issues at all?
anyway, it looks real good on there. if anything i might get one of these down the line too because i share your thoughts on the price of a legit one.
i still owe you a photoshoot so hit me up whenever.

Re: (SOL Food)
WOW this thread's back from the dead LOL.
Marchele,
no just a very slight gap on the one pedestal which you can see in the last pic....it formed to fit the trunk snugly after just 1 10 mile run on the freeway
I would love to take you up on the PS sometime....never really had much free time since the last time we planne to do it though... I will just make some time in the future i I don't get some...no races to work at all this month so maybe a weekend coming up? Would want to get a few more things installed first though
