Re: how to polish a valve cover?? (rookie2nr)
I highly DON'T recommend polishing your valve cover. If you should, then I have a few things to suggest.
1. Buy a second valve cover so you can work on it when you want, and to replace the original should you really screw it up.
2. Use aircraft aluminum paint remover (sold at Walmart) to remove paint from cover.
3. Buy a workbench buffer/grinder and a good amount of polish.
4. Try mildly sanding off the small texture on some valve covers with 800-1000 grit paper.
5. Go really slow and don't push hard because aluminum will burn and turn black under the heat of polishing too hard. Which in turn it twice as hard to remove.
Polishing looks cool cause everyone knows it took alot of work, but it is a bitch to keep up.
