Icon2 Anyone ever try to retrofit the Del Sol's reflector into a light?

Has anyone tried to convert/retrofit their front bumper reflectors into lights? I don't mean buying a sidemarker from another type of vehicle and cutting the bumper so that it fits. I mean modifying the actual reflector to have it emit light.

I will be doing this as soon as I receive a couple parts from eBay. The only problem is that the best fitting parts I could find are from China. So I'm in for a few weeks wait.

I will be wiring them to the corner lights. This way they will be on with the headlights, as well as when I use the turn signal.

If it turns out well, I will make a DIY thread on here and on teamsolcal.com

I know I can buy JDM/EDM fenders that have sidemarkers in them. But that's not what I want to do (partially because I'm cheap, and partially because I want a new mini-project to work on).

I just wanted to get your opinions and/or recommendations while I wait for the parts to arrive.

Here is the reflector I am talking about. This is my own car...I have already tinted them slightly darker than normal.

I already purchased the LED lights I will be using on eBay. Just waiting for the parts to arrive and then I will be underway.

I will be using a dremel with a cutting wheel like the image below to cut a perfectly sized hole in the black plastic in the back of the reflector. I will need to be very careful not to cut into the lens.

Then I will attach the lights I purchased from eBay to the back. If the lights end up being too bright, I can simply cover some of it with electrical tape. Below is a picture of the lights I ordered.

Then I will post a picture of my results, day and night.

I want to clarify what I said here.

The reason I am doing it this way is because I can't figure out how to remove the lens from the reflector assembly without breaking it. If anyone can give me suggestions, I am all ears. It sounds like something that should be simple...but it isn't.

I never owned a Sol so I had no clue those were just reflectors. Waste of a design.
Will it just emit light? Any plans on possibly linking them to the turn signals? If it were me I'd do it in an alternating flash.

Ya, it's definitely a stupid design. The JDM/EDM/UKDM Del Sols have actual proper sidemarkers in the fenders. USDM/CDM have these stupid reflectors in the bumpers instead.

You must have missed in the first post where I mentioned I would wire them to the turn signals So yeah, they will work with the headlights, and with the turn signal.

Do you know how to make the alternating flash work? My understanding of electronics tells me this can be accomplished with either clever wiring using a relay, or clever wiring using a resistor. Or perhaps both? If anyone knows how this is done, fill me in on the details. In the meantime, I will do some research.

Yeah. I missed that. I thought it was a simple wiring thing that got them to flash alternately.

What about just getting a set of these?
They're DEPO and claim to be real side markers.

Well according to the description, there is no bulb, no bulb type, says "replacement", and "The installation is easy with no modifications required". It also says it is a genuine OEM item, which doesn't make much sense because I am fairly confident that these were all Stanley, like mine.

Searching the part number "33805-SR2-A01" into Google Images also shows it is just a reflector, not a light.

I'm thinking it is just a deceiving title.

•Manufacturer: DEPO
•Manufacturer Part Number: 317-1402N/N--S
•Position on Vehicle: Neutral
•OEM Part Number: 33805-SR2-A01
•PartsLink Number:
•Bulb Type:
•Bulbs Included:
•Certifications: DOT/SAE
•Part Condition: NEW
•Hose Inside Diameter:
•Length of Hose:
•Reinforced Layer:
•Wall Thickness:
•Material: ABS
•Design: REPLACEMENT

The "Bulb Included" thing threw me. Something similar I saw said it came with a harness.

If one were so bold possibly they could dremel the back part of the reflector out without damaging anything. Then you could try and use a marker from say, a Prelude, and maybe mate the two?

Neat idea. Looking forward to this. I like this idea too ^^... Lots of preludes and such at my junkyard.
