I'd rather hack up my hood then my front bumper.. plus it gets more air if you have just a filter on, and it looks hella tight, like a bawss!! 8)

They get about 25 to 28mpg...... If i dont get on it..... But if i do, you could actually see the needle drop...LOL. When i had my Gsr and b16 tranny in there it was like 20mpg cause i was constantly in the higher rpm even when just cruising....... On the J and K i was like 2500 rpm in 6th gear cruising around..... On a full tank one day i drove 240 miles back and forth from IFO and still had just a little under 1/2 a tank....... Thats was just regular driving on the highway. If any one needs help HMU i can help out with trouble shooting on Jswap or tips to get it to run right...... By the way the Jswap is on untuned stock ecu and the K20 turbo was on K-pro dyno tuned....

Can't believe I haven't posted yet. This is my EG sedan with a full J32a2 swap.

Here it is right after we finished the swap.

And here is the most recent shot I have of it.

This is how it dynoed on AEM with all stock internals.

Hate to bump some what of an oldie

But has anyone gotten around the mounting options dilemma. As far as I can tell you have two choices

1. Mount the motor low so you don't have to do any hood cutting but have issues with oil pan clearance
2. Mount the motor higher, eliminating oil pan issues but then you have to cut the hood out

I'm not a big fan of both. Has anyone debated a modified oil pan for more clearance or a custom intake manifold that gets around cutting the hood

I don't know if this is the right spot to be asking nor do i know if these issues have been brought up/addressed and fixed.

If so could you please kindly point me in the right direction?

Thanks
William

I used mounts at highest and I made some 3/4" shims to drop the engine between higher and lowe position! I used 2010 TL 3.7l intake manifold and cut some hood squeleton. I had to shim the hood to make it fit!

The tranny hangs as low and more forward than the oil pan so it would still drag, just wouldn't have to worry about busting your pan. I have thought about it but haven't had time yet.

I have a custom intake that works with EG gen2 mounts on high. Gen 1 mounts are too high and the front valve cover is above the hood line.

As azdz said the SH-AWD intake is shorter, about 10mm.

Hrmm. Because right now my ej8 is low enough to break motor mounts lol, I was looking into the j swap (which I would turbo, can't drive anything NA anymore) but I have concerns about clearance

Right now I'm setting up my car for road course use as well as a daily and aggressive mountain run car so obviously I'm raising the ride height a bit, I'm in the middle of modifying the suspension system with an inboard mount cantilever/pushrod system with coilovers that cost more per unit than my whole car.

It's also hard to find a j35 or 37 swap that people don't want an arm and a leg for. I was just debating this before getting any deeper with my built lsvtec and my midrange/response 450whp 400wtq turbo setup

This is exactly what I did. BUT no hood shimming.

gen2 Hasport mounts on the higher setting
3.7 TL SH AWD upper manifold
Shimmed the passenger and driver mounts 1/2 inch
Cut some hood skeleton and done.

Didnt have to shim the hood at all either and oil pan clearance is decent. This was on a DC2. The car also uses 17" CCW LM12s. The 17 inch wheel size keeps a decent stance while still keeping good ground clearance. Dont even attempt to do this with a 15" wheel. May as well go to the higher setting and cut a hole in the hood if you do. 16" will work if you rock a decent amount of rubber. I had an even harder time making all this work than most since this car has a triptronic tranny and required custom trans mounts and a secondary torque mount. BTW this is the same car as the orange one pictured above. This is the new look.

Absolutely. If you want a closed hood on one of these swaps every inch counts.

Yea I'm on 15s right now but it's looking like I need 16s to clear my elaborate and huge front brake setup

Parts of the car are still in lingo, no point in having a pimp, high horsepower/torque motor if you have nothing to stick it in

I'm going to start researching j series motors. I know they are fairly bulletproof. A guy in FI is making 700-800whp on a stock internal j series. I just need to locate suppliers to get a grasp on motor and 6spd trans options and cost. Speaking of which what's the rough cost of a motor, 6spd trans, wiring harness and ecu? I'll be doing most of the fabrication work on my own from shortening and re-looming the harness, motor mounts, shifter box, turbo manifold, etc (you get the picture)

I'd only be aiming for 500hp and as much torque as possible, meth injection, etc and probably go with a custom equal length intake man with itbs, velocity stacks in the plenum, etc. The one thing I don't know is ahs anyone released somewhat aggressive cams for these motors yet?

I know I could sell most of my b series stuff and my d series stuff to fund the build but any turbo manifold would have to be a full on custom endeavour

Not to mention i still have the obd2 scan check yearly for emissions so I'd need to put the stock ecu back in, etc

My preferred ems has always been an aem unit, I'd love a vipec or an infinity unit if I ever got up the spare change

Any opinions?

My J32a2 with the 6MT, ECU, axles, shifter, shifter cables, and harness was $2900 shipped. It was pretty dirty though (east coast seller). Hmotors has a full swap for $3400 + shipping.

I haven't seen anyone build one up that far but I'm sure it can be done.

Not yet. Bisi makes a regrind but no one makes a full blown new unit. The J35a8 out of an RL has the most agressive profile out of all the stock cams.

I am still prepping my setup for its reinstall into an EK. I used to have it in a DC with Gen1 HASports and a fitted hole in the hood.

I had this manifold made by my very talented fab guy Lou. It's not finished yet, but it comes in a full 3/4" lower on the rear side, which is a lot with this swap. With all the runners pointed to the rear, the front of the engine is much lower where it counts most.

Paid $900

There are a few running the J series compressor with custom lines and some running the K series compressor with the conversion kit.
