Icon6 2007 Accord Coolant sensor replacement -- HELP NEEDED

Hi,

I'm planning in replace the engine coolant temperature sensor on my 2007 accord myself, because of error codes of P2158 and P2157 was generated.

Do I need to drain the coolant fluid before I take out the damaged sensor? Considering the sensor hole is pretty small, With the engine cold and the coolant cap closed, I was hoping that the pressure may hold the fluid from spilling all over. Am I way out of the reality?

Does anybody have suggestions?

Do I need to manually clear the error code from the system or it will go away automatically?

Many Thanks.

the codes first appeared during the state inspection, then i went to autozone, they also pull out the same codes. these codes actually refers to the coolant sensor. I bought the sensor from a honda dealership.

Anybody knows if I need to drain the coolant first or it's OK to just replace it sensor with coolant?

Thanks.

just for whoever has similar situation...

I have replaced the ect sensor without draining the coolant. With the car cold, stopped at garage for over 8 hours, when the old sensor is removed, coolant flowed out slowly, I quickly screwed in the new sensor and the loss of coolant is less than a cup.

one note, you'll need a deep socket to release and tight the sensor.

Why did you replace your sensor? What was your car doing that you realized it was bad? My cooling fan on my radiator is not starting up, so I am wondering if this is the reason.

Probably will need replacing as there isn't much you can do to fix if faulty. With the oil in the intake problem check out your pcv valve is clean and working ok

i had a car overheat with that code. replaced the ect sensor 2 the one in the radio and good to go.. all you need is 17mm deep socket and ratchet. very little coolant comes out. make sure the oring is removed from the sensor.
