Default 6-speed

Hello,

My name is Marco and i live in holland. Last week i bought a K24A3 with gearbox. They were from a recent Accord staionwagen, aprox 10k miles on it.

When i went to pick up the engine they disasembled the engine and gearbox, because this was easier for them to get them out of the car. At home i fitted the gearbox to the engine and they didnt fit at first. There were "pins" (dont know the english word) to align the engine at the same spot on the gearbox as well as on the engine. Furthermore i discovered that the gearbox i got was a 5 speed, while i was sure Accords have a 6-speed.

My question is: did i get the right gearbox with the engine (gyl3-1001658 gearboxcode)? Can anyone help me out a bit?

Kind regards,

Marco

well... not all accords come with 6spd... only special edition/race/sport edition has 6 speed i believe. station wagon more than likely has the 5speed.

also k24a3 is probably the lower model and doesnt need 6spd.

As far as I know, only the V6 Accords have 6spd transmissions.

well this may be different for euro cars, but here in the US, the 4 cylinder cars only come with 5 speeds. 5 speed=4cyl tranny, 6 speed=6cyl tranny

that may be different there, but here we have no 6 speed 4 cylinder.

p.s. those pins you talk about are called "dowel pins" if you ever need to go to honda and buy new ones...

hope this helps

You should show your location in your profile, because it's a big planet and Honda's a big company. :-) Specifications differ widely depending on the market, and it's hard even to tell what somebody means when he says "Accord" sometimes.

Your Accord could be our TSX, for example. Giving the first part of the chassis code also helps. I know you said in your text that you lived in the Netherlands, but it'd help if you had this in your location so it showed in your profile.

For whatever that is worth. :-)

Almost all K24 motors that were put into anything called "Accord" are going to have five speed, non-LSD transmissions.

There are many K20 "Accord" cars that will have six speeds attached, and some of them will have LSD.

The wide torque range of the K24 should be just fine with a five speed. IMHO.

Not exactly sure of your situation but I do know that the element has a different transmission bell(housing)That won't bolt correctly to the accord or Tsx Motor even though they are k24, they are different models. For the k24a2 or k24a4 at least you would need a TSX OR ACCORD tranny and they are interchangeable. I just researched a little and the K24a3 isn't even in US so I honestly can't advise on this one. It would be as helpful as a silent car alarm. Also Im sort of confused, you say you bought the k24a3 and gearbox together, so how wouldn't it fit? You mean in the car? Or do you have another k24a?engine that you tried to bolt the tranny to?
