Default 2014 Audio Upgrades

Just purchased my first Honda (2014 Accord Sport). Really like the car but the stereo is lame & it's not satellite compatible. The saleperson talked me out of the EX radio upgrade ($799) and suggested to go after market.

Has anyone replaced the four factory speakers while still using the 160-watt factory radio? Looking at 6-1/2 R165X3 Rockford's or 5-1/4 DB5251 Polk's.

Seriously…no one else is pi$$ed about the '14 Sport audio system???
I've researched Crutchfield, Amazon, eBay and no acceptable solutions.
Has anyone converted a 2013/14 audio system????

So there is an EX radio upgrade? Did the salesman told you that? The EX still have the same 160w audio, no? The only difference is "6 speakers."

There are many solutions, and depends on what you want.

With a brand new car, I would change out all 4 speakers to something mid-price, like Sony.

It sounds like your audio needs are at a set standard. Your best bet is to change out the head unit and 4 mid price speakers.

is it the sound of the head unit thats bad, or just a lack of power etc? if it's just a lack of power, you can use the output of the head unit to drive external amps and better speakers, buy the best speakers you can afford to replace the stock ones, thats the best upgrade you can do, no matter what else you do, if the speakers suck,or are mediocre, then other upgrades dont matter

that looks like a fun and challenging project, I did something like that years ago when I owned a small car stereo shop near atlanta, just to see what was possible with a factory head unit

I've done that to my Civic (after my HU) was stolen. OEM stereo and amp is all wrong, especially if you got a good amp with all the adjustments. And I could not get it right and sounded worst. Don't do that.

Getting any...even a $65 HU brought my system back to life.

really depends on the head unit, some sound terrible but some have line outs which can be run through equalization before your amps

So I installed Sony's (XSGT1338F) & in front and rear (XSGT1638F) with same HU - very minimal improvement.

I've since bought Rockford Fosgate Punch (P165) for the rear & Polk Audio (DXi525) for the fronts. I also purchased an Alpine KTP-445U 4-channel amp to give more wattage.

So far I've only had time to install the Punch's in the rear and they do sound better than the Sony's!!!

The problem with buying an aftermarket HU is that the dash screen interface is tied into the current radio controls so I would have to forego the screen functions with a new HU?

I'll post the outcome after the final install...
