Hoping someone can help me. New to this forum, just bought a 2005 Accord EX. Have a few minor items to repair on this car such as the dome light base which I have figured out already.

My door on the center accessory wants to stay open and was trying to figure out if a new spring was needed or if it was magnet closed, etc. Took a picture of it for any suggestions. Hate to pay $100 or so for a new one if I just need a spring or some type of stop, etc.

Hi,

Thanks to the person before, Dave. I too have the problem with my Accord 2005 EX auto center console door staying closed, its always stays open. I believe there is a spring inside that assist the pivot lever to stay close and open correctly.

The Honda dealer said the whole middle console assembly had to be replaced, which was $150 with out labor cost! I have a schematic from the dealer, but it doesn't help.

I have removed the small panel next to pedal by removing 2 screws, but that's all. How do I get to this area to find the pop off spring or replace it without destroying the middle console?

check on ebay for someone scrapping out a car for parts. or check parting out threads in the classifieds. someone's surely got one laying around.

I find that space to rather useless on my 06 in the past, as there is a much bigger space just behind it.

Not the solution you want, but double stick tape. That space is not worth $100 or $150 to fix.

From the pic you posted, it looks like the left edge is pushing it up. Could that be a cause of it not staying closed?

I don't know what 2 screws you are talking about next to the panel near the pedal? This comes out real easy, took me about 5 minutes or so. It is a little, cheap plastic hinge that broke, probably cost all of about 5 cents, but Honda doesn't apparently sell it seperately. The center console with the attached cigarette lighter for my (woodgrain) is under the Instrument Panel - Passenger Side-Garnish:

It is a discount price of $80.76 from South Bay Honda. However, I don't need to fix it that bad for $81 plus shipping!! I am going to look in a salvage yard to try to find one to rob a part. Here is a good pic to removing the center console:
