2003 V6 Accord - Timing belt question(s)???
My inlaw has a 2003 honda Accord with about 105,000 miles. She has been told by her dealership that the timing belt NEEDS to be changed as a part of routine maintenence. My questions:
1. Does the belt really need to be changed at this point? If not, then when?
2. Does the Honda V6 have free-wheeling pistons that would prevent an internal castastrophy if the belt breaks?
3. What would a job like this, if necessary, cost?
4. Is this a do it yourself kind of job? If so, what hardware woyuld be required to get the job done?

1. Yes, it should be changed as soon as possible
2. No, if the timing belt breaks, you risk damage to internal engine parts (valves, pistons, cylinder walls).
3. It will cost anywhere from $500 to $1000 or more, depends where you have it done, and what parts they change (besides the belt, like water pump, tensioner, seals, etc.)
4. It's a DIY job for someone with a good shop manual, and some mechanical knowledge. I would not recommend someone with no experience working on engines try this. There are how-to's on the Internet (google is your friend), if you would like to get an idea what is involved. Here is one for an Acura TL, which is very similar. Have a ball.

my apologies. I did search the site and found nothing relating to the V6 Accords.
secondly, as I am new here, I am not allowed to start a new thread for 15 days, and at that not until after I have made 5 posts. This is why I went to a question relating to a 2003 V6 Accord.
