03 Accord Ignition Key Cylinder replacement
The ignition key in my wife’s '03 Accord over the last few weeks has been getting hard to turn. This morning we cannot even get the key in the cylinder. I called the dealer they said they have one in stock an it "just bolts in". When I arrived, the parts guy said I could replace it but the car wouldn't start because the keys would need reprogrammed. Its an ex w/o an alarm or remote start.
Anyway to program this myself?
Will this temp patch work on a new ignition set and keys?
1. Use the appropriate key blanks and a suitable key
cutting machine.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Insert the newly cut ignition key into the ignition
switch.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). Wait for the
brake indicator bulb check to complete. You must do this every time you turn the key on during the procedure
5. Enter the first digit of the five-digit Immobilizer
Brake Code by setting and releasing the parking
brake that number of times within 30 seconds. For
example, if the first digit is four, set and release the
parking brake four times.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). This enters
the first digit into the ECM/PCM.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), set and release
the parking brake the appropriate number of times,
and turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to enter the
second, third, fourth, and fifth digits.
NOTE: When you turn the ignition switch to ON (II),
the immobilizer indicator stays on. The indicator
stays on even when the ignition switch is turned to
LOCK (0).
8. After you enter the fifth digit and turn the ignition
switch to LOCK (0), the immobilizer indicator blinks
three times and then goes off. You can now start
the engine with the temporary key.
NOTE: This procedure is only a temporary fix.
When you start the engine with the temporary key,
the immobilizer indicator comes on and stays on
while the engine is running. And when you turn the
ignition switch to LOCK (0), the indicator does not
blink as it normally would.
9. Start the engine within 10 minutes or you must
repeat this procedure entirely.

Re: 03 Accord Ignition Key Cylinder replacement
You can install it yourself, then get the immobilizer brake code from the dealer that will let you drive it to the dealer instead of towing it to have the key(s) programmed. No way for you to program. It will work with new keys/lock cylinder.
Another option is to leave the old immobilizer attatched to the wires and tape one of the old keys to it. let it dangle down behind the new ignition lock. The pcm will see a familiar code even though you are using a different key to turn it on. Now you can drive to have it programmed. When you get there, all you have to do is swap the wires over to the new immobilizer unit before they program it.
