My wife has a 06 accord ex 4cy auto trans. with 125k miles on it. I need to do a ATF change and I have read that this model has a external filter. Is it true and if so where is it located?
also, whats the best tranny fluid to put back in it and how many quarts?

You get the idea. Can't find a pic of the exact year of your I4.

I would only use Honda ATF now. DW-1 is the only thing you can get now as Honda discontinued the Z1.

I don't recall the specs for the I4 AT. For the V6, it would hold 9 qt (8 point something) if I am able to drain it all out. If I just remove it from the drain plug, I can only get out 4 something.

I4 would be slightly less.

There is an external filter located on the top of the trans (looks like an overgrown fuel filter) in the rubber ATF lines. They cost on average $25-33 from the dealers, we do not carry them, but they're usually available from our DC the next day. Pt# 25430-PLR-003
