What is leaking oil all over the driveway
The answer to this question is my accord.
I have a 95 ex that i just assumed responsibility for and this car was and still is in pretty poor shape. Aside from the wide array of issues this car has i wanted to ask you guys what peice or seal can leak oil, but make it look like its leaking out of the driver side axle seal. I got under the car when we bought it, a machine shop said the rear main was bad, so i checked all in the bell housing area and it was dry. But i notice a fat puddle in my driveway. So i get under the car and boom its just a bad axle seal running down the trans and dripping off. The tranny fluid was black so i never thought anything different. Now after the transmission has been flushed and seal replaced the oil leak remains. And now i can be assured that this leak is indeed oil. It couldnt be the transmission because with a leak this big (like a dinner plate diameter every night) the transmission fluid couldnt get black because it would leak out too fast. It is almost impossible to track this leak up above the axle cuz you just cant see nothing. The rear engine mount is right in your way. What am i not seeing. I have the head off the car right now with the pistons out were doing a back yard rebuild on this thing. And i still dont see any cracks or weird things leaking. Thanks for the time. This car is keeping me up at night.

i wish i knew what you were talking about... because if your tranny fluid was black you have far greater problems..
it was oil that was leaking, if an axle boot rips.. they don't "leak" fluid, its grease
Look for the oil pressure sending unit, look around the oil filter, and your rear main seal might be shot.

Think of axle seal at the transmission leaking tranny fluid. It drips out right where the axle goes into the trans on the driver side. Now imagine that instead of transmission fluid its leaking engine oil. Its not the thick grey lube inside the boots of an axle. Its straight engine oil. I cant see anthing above it that is leaking. This is one of the those problems that when you explain it to others they think your going mad.

are you sure its not just oil dripping down ontop the tranny and just looks like its dripping tranny fluid?

Dist 'O' ring.......oil pressure sending unit....oil filter base gasket......valve cover gasket...oil pan gasket.....oil drain plug

Re: What is leaking oil all over the driveway (sony224422)
Its for sure oil. The new tranny fluid is bright red. Its leaking up from above the seal for the driver side axle. Its got a new valve cover gasket and it doesnt leak there. The oil filter isnt leaking. I was more or less wondering if theres anything that can leak oil from around the rear motor/tranny mount and make it look like the axle seal is the culprit. It might be the v tech selenoid gasket ima get a new one of those when honda open up after christmas. If the oil sending unit is right above the oil filter in the middle of the back side of the motor its not leaking there. Leak is driving me crazy. I just want to make sure i hem it up while the head is off the car but its hard to simulate now. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. That is the story of my life. On another bad note the head is on the way to the machine shop because when the valves are open you can grab ahold of them and move them around like a looose toooth. DARN. There has got to be a phenomena associated with motors. If you break one open its just one thing after another. I just wanted to re ring this thing. ITs like a snowball affect. Do you guys feel me?

Re: What is leaking oil all over the driveway (F22dreams)
The crank shaft seal huh. Isnt that another word for the rear main seal. If it is the rear main how can the oil be getting out the back of the motor and not getting oil all over the inside of the bell housing and torque converter. Thanks for the help.

Really the easiest way from what I've heard, is to clean off the whole motor the best you can (steam/pressure/etc) and then drive it for a bit and see if you see any new oil residue.
The stuff on the back of the motor may be old or something along those lines?
