92 honda ex

Hello, I have a '92 Honda Accord EX 4cy. with 4 speed automatic. When it shifts into OD it keeps shifting between 3rd and OD(back and forth constantly). It will stay in OD for a few seconds and then fall out and back up again. What is wrong? Is this a major tranny problem? I'm not a Honda guy so I'm totally unfamiliar with them.

Could this be the range switch? How hard is this to replace?

I'll take a swing.
1) Trans fluid level is? Fluid condidtion is?
2) Throttle control cable is properly adjusted?
3) Test and clean the locak up solenoid

EDIT: Dang it, first question should have been.....Any stored codes in the ECU/TCU?

Are you sure it’s dropping into third gear and you’re not feeling the torque converter lock dropping out?

If it’s the torque converter lockup the RPM will shoot up a few hundred 200-300.

I would check the following:

Make sure the engine is running the proper factory temp when warm. (If the engine temp is too low torque converter lock will always keep dropping in and out.)

Check the connector for the top solenoid for corrosion and OHM check the solenoid.

OHM check the front NC sensor on the right side of the trans as shown in this link. This sensor should also be removed and cleaned.

Now that you've said that, it probably might be the converter dropping out of lock up because the rpms do go up 200-300 like you said. I'll try the above mentioned solutions. Thanks

I didn't ask about the 3rd 4th as I assumed is was 4th and lock up....which means the throttle control cable is still in play here.
