paint chipping off.. Easy painting methods?
So this 92 2 dr accord I got is painted flat black over the original red. I've had it since November, but now the paint is starting to flake off!
1.) How do you think the last guy painted it? Some cheap shitty method?
2.) Whats the cheapest easiest way for me to repaint it when it starts getting real bad?

It's chipping probably b/c of poor preparation. You suppose to take the old paint off, sand it it smooth, prime it, then paint it, clear coat.

2.) Sand off all of the flat black paint and get down into the original red. Fix any dents and dings with bondo/spot putty. Then prime, block sand, spot putty, prime, block sand. Once you get it nice and smooth with no dips or dents you paint it. X number coats of base then X number coats of clear......or a bunch of coats of rattle can paint. I may have left out a step or two....... To make it cheap, is to do it yourself. How to make it last. Is to learn how to do each step properly.
It would probably be cheaper to have a proper shop do it in the long run.

If your really looking for a 'cheap' fix, and looks aren't AS important, check out Van Sickle single stage tractor paints. I use it on my racecar because it's $25 for a gallon of it, and about half that will do the entire car easily. Follow ghosts advise on prep, get the paint, reduce with mineral spirits, spray it with a harbor freight spray gun, and then clear it if you want
I think if you cleared it it would look nice longer, after about a season of the racecar sitting outside it looks fades and doesnt look as glossy, but it's not bad at all, you might be able to just buff it when it fades.
I'll post a pic of my racecar later on today, We didn't paint it this season so you can see what it looks like with some fading.

The prep part is the worst and time consuming but it's also the most important part. If you want, you could do one section of the car each time.
