Tell me about H22 auto trannies with LSD, swap to 98 Accord
Are the H22 auto trannies pretty strong? Since my auto tranny in my 98 Accord is going out, I am considering doing an H22 motor swap with an auto tranny with LSD. My other consideration is doing an auto to manual swap and sticking with my f23, although the H22 w/auto swap seems to be fairly similar in price considering at-mt swap is pretty labor intensive.
Any thoughts on the H22 auto?

yes the jdm h22 auto tranny is freakishly strong
htought seeing as ur obd2, a 5spd swap might be easier, cuz hooking up the TCM for the obd1 jdm tranny is going to be hard. your car only has one ECU with built in tcm, the older obd1 accord/ludes had seperate tcms.

well honestly, i am not sure waht you can do about getting around that ECU/TCM obstacle. maybe if you were good at wiring, you can try and convert your whole harness to obd1, but i really wouldn't tackle that unless your good with reading circuit diagrams

Re: (HandoEX)
I hope you enjoy your tranny. I just have the jdm auto without lsd. It is pretty strong. I haven't busted it yet and its been in since late march of 04. my f22a6 gave once i started to get on her. The h22 is holding its own. Only bad thing about you having an lsd auto, is that if you want to go auto to manual, you have to buy a whole new lsd. I am going be swapping my auto out this summer though. I plan on having at the least 215whp and the auto just won't hold up too well as you pass 200whp. Besides I wanna see what all the hype is about with the 5spd.

I'm looking for about 200whp with the new tranny so I think it should hold up. Hopefully a high stall and cooler will be coming fairly soon.

Suscribed! I wish you both the best of luck. I'm interested since I'm thinkin about throwing in a H22 into my gf's 5th Gen and she don't drive stick. Also, what's the best place to source a H22 auto tranny and what should I expect to pay?

how many mileage you go on your car at this moment? i've read about the auto trannies crapping out on our cars and i just want to take note since you're experiencing it right now. i too plan on swapping out the f23 auto for a h22 auto since i can't/refuse to drive manual. but that might change since i don't plan on doing this until my car is paid off.

My '98 currently has 151,200 miles and the tranny problems started about 3500-4500 miles ago. It sounds as though I was lucky the tranny lasted as long as it did
I bought mine through PasswordJDM and got an awesome deal since the setup was on their blowout sale. Should be here in a week or two

sorry it took so long to answer. i did my swap around 94k. presently i am knocking on 118k. it got her put in back in april of 03. by no means do i take it easy on my car. not to mention my car is heavier than the sedan and coupe. about 3-4 hundred lbs heavier. tranny still pulls hard, shifts when suppose to, revs to 6500-6800 before it shifts, rapid acceleration, hard stops, fast cornering and with all this, she still goes strong. i am in the process of swapping to 5spd though only because i want to add power upgrades and be able to get it tuned with neptune or hondata, which only works for 5 spd.

What's the gearing like on the auto tranny? Are the gears fairly short?

not to knock your project dude, but ...
getting an h22 auto is like getting the prom queen all alone, then finding out she's a he ...
I would not keep an auto tranny with an H22
it defeats the purpose of the swap completely
might as well swap the tranny and lsd only and keep your f block
an auto / shiftronic / tranny will lose anywhere from 15-25% of drivetrain power ... having that power will make you move a lot better through the powerband
anyways good luck

Thanks for the advice...but my God I'm sick of explaining this My stock tranny is trashed. I don't want another f23 auto tranny. A 5 speed swap would end up costing me a hair less than getting the H22 motor AND tranny and I'd be stuck keeping my stock sohc, which happens to have 155k. So the way I see it...keep the f23 and swap to 5-speed or get a the low mileage H22 with auto. I guess it was all about getting the most out of a limited budget.

Re: (HandoEX)
Don't some people make ODBI conversion kits?
Just wondering/trying to help you out
EDIT: yes they do

Re: (dmurphy2k3)
Could have got the h22 w/ 5 spd for not much more and just converted too 5spd. Drive your auto around then have somone take you for a ride in a 5spd lsd. Your gonna wish you just converted. Anyways gl with the headache of the auto ecu. The 5spd swap would have been easier.

A 5 speed swap would have been a LOT more $ than an auto swap. I paid $1400 for motor, tranny and ecu. I've yet to find many H22s with 5 speeds for under $2k. Then consider how much I'd be throwing at the other parts needed to do a 5 speed conversion...
5 speed starter
5 speed shifter assembly
5 speed drivers side axle
5 speed intermediate shaft
5 speed clutch pedal assembly
5 speed brake pedal arm
clutch master cylinder
clutch lines
clutch dampener assembly
slave cylinder
clutch
flywheel
5 speed mount
5 speed bracket
I'm not dumping money into this to make the car faster as much as I am replacing parts with better ones. I am replacing a high mileage motor and a transmission that is failing with a better motor and a transmission that CAN'T BE WORSE THAN MY STOCK F23 TRANNY!
