Default TCS and Check Engine Light 2001 V6

The TCS and check engine light have been going off occasionally. I have checked the cause for the cel, but could anybody help me determine the cause for the TCS light. Which connector do I jumper (abs?), what pins do I connect, and where is it located on the 2001 V6 model (passenger side under glovebox?). Thanks in advance.

The TCS (Traction Control System) works in conjunction with the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and shares a few sensors with The ECM (Engine Control Module)
and the PCM (Powertrain .....). One of which is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).

If you have one near, Truddle over to <U>DeathZone Auto Parts </U>and ask if one of their more knowledgeable employees could scan your system for DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). It should be of the syntax Pxxxx; (greater that P0100).
With that (those) codes, we can continue on to the next step.

Post them here. Most likely several contributors will chime up with pointed suggestions

Get your cel problem straightened out and the tcs light will probably go away too.

I'll check tomorrow morning, but thanks for your help P_Adams. Do you know if you can jumper anything and check the codes for the TCS without plugging in a module to read them?
In regards to the CEL it is a P0401- EGR/Insufficient flow problem. I've been meaning to fix it, but haven't found the time to do so. Too bad it is over the warranty period, but I don't think it relates to the TCS light then again I could be wrong.

I believe you need the scan tool for anything other than the ecm (even then it's prefered). (I'll most likely be proven wrong (it happens sometimes ). I've always gone to the diagnostic terminal, so I (truthfully) can't advise you one way or another.

to scan codes for the 6th gen accords you need to jumper pins 8 and 13. turn the ignition on and the codes will flash as in the following example

this would eqaul 12 (EGR)

For those of us who won't(can't) spend $$$ in OBD-ii scanners; there is an alternative to find out
about codes and that CHECK ENGINE light that is driving us crazy:
1) Go to Autozone and have them read your codes (it's free)
or
2) See the instructions below

WARNING!!!: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

HOW TO OBTAIN TROUBLE CODES MANUALLY (6Th Gen Accord - V6 & I4)
1) Find the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the instrument panel in the driver's side.
2) Jump terminals 8 and 13 by connecting them with a wire/cable.

DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)

3) Turn the ignition key to ON and observe the "CHECK ENGINE" light. It will flash the trouble codes. For example: 2
long flashes, pause and then 3 short flashes = 23 = P0325 = Knock sensor circuit fault.
One short flash = 1. One long flash = 10. If there is no trouble codes, the light will not flash.

P1607-PCM internal circuit failure and

HOW TO CLEAR TROUBLE CODES (after fixing problem)
1) Remove ignition key (OFF)
2) Locate fuse panel on passenger's side (open door)
2) Remove fuse no. 13 (7.5 amp) for 10 seconds, and then place it back in.

They had a TSB on sixth gen EGR's if i remember correctly. If you havent changed it I would take it back to the Honda dealership and see if it applies to your vehicle.

my car has close to 90K on it and the dealer fixed it for me no charge. If you have a 5th gen and are in CA, you are covered for 150K on some emmisions stuff.

I just stopped by Autozone today and used their OBDII scanner. The only code stored was P0401, which I already know corresponds to the EGR insufficient flow problem. I still don't know why the TCS light would come on. Any ideas on how to check the cause for the TCS light?

It might be the same as my friend lex when we diagnosed it. Usually when the engine senses a fault that causes driveablility problems the TCS and the Check engine will light up together. When you get the EGR code fixed both the TCS and Check Engine light should go away.
