Default Speedometer and Odometer aren't working

my speedometer stopped working and so did the odometer, i installed a new vehicle speed sensor bought from the honda dealer and still nothing, could it be a loose connector wire? or is my speedometer just plain dead? or is it a faulty speed sensor, which is brand new

1995 Accord V6 4Dr

you gotta replace the speedo, its very easy to do it yourself.

The needle has a problem, its a mechanism behind the speedo, if you hit it, it will restart, but you need to take it apart, and redo it, or go to the junkyard and find a used one, same thing happened to me, and many others

goodluck

9 times out of 10 if the car is driving fine and the speedo and odometer stop working the its going to be the speedo head. like stated while driving tap on the gauge cluster. If it starts to work then this is your problem. Its a fairly comon problme depending on the year of you car.

well i just changed the speed sensor and the whole gauge cluster, and still nothing, speedometer and odometer still don't work, check engine light still goes on, cruise control doesnt work, could it be a wire that goes from the speed sensor to the ECU, or a wire that goes from the speed sensor to the speedometer? how much would replacing the wire cost? anyone have wiring diagrams for the 1995 Accord 4DR V6, Auto Transmission???

The problem you have deals with the plug that goes into your ignition coil, you need to check it, i had the same problem, and upon changing out my engine wiring harness (for other problems also) the cruise control went back to working fine and so did the odometer and tach.

Disclaimer - This is true only if in the V6 engine the ignition coil assembly and engine wiring harness mate together in a similar way to the F22b2.

take the electrical portion of the speed sensor off leave it plugged in take the little drive shaft for it chuck it into a fast drill and spin it while someone is watching the speedo with the key on, if the speedo shows movement then the mechanicle portion if the sensor is bad.

I am having the same problem with the speedometer not working on my 1995 Honda Accord EX (4 dr sedan with manual trans) and have also replaced the vehicle speed sensor to no avail. I am ready to replace the entire gauge cluster, but cannot figure out how to get the dash apart without breaking it. I removed the kick panel, the screws on the left and right side of the column, and the screws above the cluster, but it still seems to be stuck on the far right near the glove box. Also I can't figure out how to unclip it from each of the vents either. When I unclip one the other clips back into place.

Can someone post directions on what they did to remove the dash to get at the gauge cluster?

Thanks!

I have a 1998 Honda LX and my speedometer/Odemeter have given me trouble for the past year. I have tried almost everything from replacing the Speedometer and the Alternater. It has happened once before and changing the Speedometer worked, but it did not stay fixed for long. My whole car went nuts and now my check engine light will not go off, my speedomter and odometer do not work either. Honda has had my car for THREE WEEKS and still can't figure out how to fix it. They have tried changing the censors, computer, and are now trying to tell me I need a new alternator (which I just replaced a few months ago.) Luckily I had a warranty on the alternator, and got a new one, but Honda refuses to put the new one on until a part for the Speedomter arrives FROM BACK ORDER!!!! I am sick of waiting and the only reason I decided to get it fixed was because I recieved two speeding tickets because I had no idea how fast I was driving. It's a real pain the ***.

i just got my **** fixed finally!!! it wasn't the speedometer, odometer, speed sensor...it was the VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR WIRE!!! the orange wire that connects from the speed sensor to the instrument panel...tell them to look for splices within the wiring cause that's what happened to mine. cruise control stopped working, car wasn't shifting smoothly, check engine light on...just fix the orange VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR wire and you're good to go!!

How do you replace just that wire? Doesn't it go into the huge bundle of wires, thus making it nearly impossible to replace just that? Thanks--

I am having the same problem with my 97 accord. Water pump went out and I had it and belts replaced. When I got it back from the shop the engine light came on and the speedometer quit working. Originally was told the connector might have melted when the water pump went out and it overheated.. Had the connector changed and it didn't fix it. I don't even care that the odometer doesn't work. Just need to get the engine light off so I can get it inspected.. any ideas?
** Of course I had it scanned for codes..
It is throwing speed sensor code. Have changed the speed sensor and checked fuse...
