Got the tools, is there a special way in changing the plugs, do I need to measure it for gap? Or this is just turn and torque?

When changing the plugs do I need to change the wire too?

Changing plugs on four cylinder Accords is very easy. Just make sure the plugs are correctly gapped which should be done at the time you buy the plugs (just check the gap at the counter, Autozone, Pepboys etc will have gappers laying around).

Remove the old plugs with a sparkplug socket, remove and replace plugs one at a time. Use a torque wrench if you have one, otherwise turn it until it's good and snug, but don't over-tighten it. The owner's manual in my '99 says something like "when resistence is first felt, turn 3/4 of a turn more".

With regard to replacing wires, if you are having engine problems that aren't fixed with new plugs, replace the wires. If they are old (say, 10 years or more) replace them.

This is definately a "do-it-yourself" type of job.

By you mean measure gap, do you mean to measure the gap between the electrode and the contact?

I do have a torque wrench any idea what torque?

Correct, the gap is the distance between the tip and the arm.

Your owner's manual will have the right torque on the plugs.

The tool to use to measure the gap will look like this:



There will be a stack of them at any autoparts store counter, just pick one up and use it. Or buy one, the cost will be about one dollar. Or better yet, ask the clerk to make sure that they are gapped correctly.

I'm actually getting them online. If they not gapped properly what should I do, sand them down with a sandpaper?

No, gently bend the arm into position and check the gap again. A dirty, used spark plug on the other hand... you can sand the deposits away if you want.
