Default p1739 DTC code 1999 accord. Tranny defective or switch?

Hello all,

I have a p1739 trouble code (3rd clutch pressure circuit) on my 1999 Accord. I understand that the code indicates the self test of the pressure switch has failed. After reading every post I could find anywhere, I reason that this could be due to one of three things.

(1) defective switch
(2) defective wiring (open or shorted)
(3) defective transmission (pressure not changing as expected due to clogs)

There are so many hits for this code online, but it does not seem clear in any case if it turned out to be a tranny problem. With so many owners reporting this code I'd like to get some feedback as to whether or not anyone has fixed it simply by replacing the switch or repairing wiring.

Also, for those who did not fix the problem, what happened to your transmission over time? Did it continue to work fine even though this code was set or did it eventually break?

At this point my tranny shifts perfectly. Car is 1999 Accord with 93K miles. I have no idea how long the code has been set since it does not light the check-engine light on the dash. I only noticed it a few days ago when another unrelated code cause the MIL to illuminate (1456 evap fuel leak).

Default Re: p1739 DTC code 1999 accord. Tranny defective or switch?

hi, my friend

I have a 98' accord with exact the same two as you described here. my girlfriend found the check engine light on after filled up the gas. I scanned and found the code. I erased them but they were back on together again. If the codes came on separately, things will be easier. most likely the third clutch pressure switch and gas cap are the cause.

I would like to know the final answer to fix your car.

Thanks,

Mike
