hey,
i just recently did a trans flush & fill with 3q of pennzoil dex/mer atf + 1q of amsoil syn universal atf, and i think i notice better shifting and response all around and in cold especially. next trans service i'll use all 4qts of amsoil and maybe my trans will last forever...hey, it's '92 w/150k...about 200++ will be nice!

so, here is what i want to know:

why honda markets their z1 atf as exclusive and nothing else to be used instead?

only ask because i'm thinking of trading current '92 accord for '03 civic and wonder if i can fill it with amsoil synthetic atf without doing harm?...i'm pretty sure it's ok and perfectly fine because honda does say in emergency dexron atf lllEh is fine but must be changed shortly after....which all that says to me is, that's all a marketing gimick, and honda trans works fine on dex/mer aft upto date whatever the ratings: lll, llle or lllh...

also, i tried an external in-line filter by wix installed into return cooler line and i think that's working very nice in making fluid like new without any contamination that might be escaping the internal filter-screen.

finally, i recently did a oil-analysis and in comparison of mobil 1 syn 5w30 vs. citgo non-syn 5w30, and results were nearly identical aside for certain additives...in my opinion, non-synthetic oils now a days are as good as synthetic stuff, if used in non super severe applications and not super extended intervals, just following oem manufacturer (honda) recommindations, synthetic oil is not all that better.


lastly, anyone think that instead of specified 5w20 for civic 1.7, i could safely use 5w30, for slightly better protection and ensure engine longevity??
