Odd sound at start up
Hi guys, I have a 4cyl 99 lx 2dr. Recently when I start up my car it makes a very annoying sound which seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. It kind of sounds like bagpipes and then some screeching but its not too loud, it just all of a sudden stops eventually after I start driving at a decent speed or after about 10 seconds. I think it might be a pump of some sort due to what it sounds like before it ends, my brother kind of had this issue in his 5th gen but it turned out to be his ABS, which is something I don't have. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Sure I have an Idea
OPEN THE HOOD, have someone start the car, then locate the noise.

Re: Odd sound at start up (dwayne1413)
Nah, the 99 lx didn't come with ABS.
Ok well heres an update on the situation I did open the hood that day actually and tried to diagnose the problem. I put the front of the car on jack stands and took passenger wheel off. Turned the car on stuck it in first gear and went over to the wheel, the sound is coming from between the rotor and the brake pad it seems. I put some water on the rotor while it was spinning and the sound became 10x as loud and frequent. So I'm guessing its a problem with the rotor, brake pad, or caliper but I really don't know much about the system to figure it out. Is this a common problem there is a solution too?
The sound can now go for very long after start up, many miles, but still stops when I push the brakes.

Add some brake grease to the brake pad shims, and to the caliper slide pins, to see if that helps it. The caliper slide pins may be sticking.
