Default Octane

Where can I get some higher octane gas? Preferably in NYC area. By higher, I mean higher than 94. Are there any disadvantages to high octane gas?

If used extensively it's not healthy for your catalytic converter, you can get an octane booster at any of your local auto shops, should bump up the fuel a couple to several points, just depends on which one you get.

Noope, they'll bump the points, little better than average.

And what will bumping 'points' do?

I think he means bump up the octane a few points. If you pump 94 octane and you use a good octane booster you should be around 97 octane. 94 is higher than I can get at a regular gas station so you should feel lucky!!

Make the fuel content richer, like when you said you wanted like 94 Premo Octane, if you put in an octane booster worth 4 points, then you'd be running at 97 as opposed to the 93 which is the highest you can get I think.

I've seen 94 octane in one place in Brooklyn. My question is not whether the octane booster will work, its what does the higher octane do anyway? I always get super 93 or 94 because I get free gas.....shhhhhh! Dont hate on me because of that please. I've paid my dues, trust me.

You're not going to be able to notice much of a difference, lets just put it that way.

93 Premo is the best, it'll do fine.

Unless you have mods on your car, Honda designed these cars to run on 86 or better Octane. They say anything more is a waste of money as the car was configured to work with regular gas. I could see if it was a crazy hight compression engine but the Accord engines are not. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Gennady, my friend's running a light weight CRX, and he loves mixing Exxon 94 octane w/ the octane booster (made by NOS he claims?)... He tells me he definitely feels a better throttle response and better pick up. I don't exactly know how the octane ratings work when they're all squeezed out of the FI mixed w/ air, but you get free gas???

I think its more of a plesebo effect. I bet if you filled his CRX with 86 with no octane booster, he wouldnt know the difference. Just like when I installed my intake, I thought I was driving a ferrari.
And yes, I get free gas.

the way running higher octane helps me is that it keeps my *** from detonating under full ignition advance

Exactly! That is the ONLY reason you should run Higher Octane! Higher Octane actually burns slower, so unless you HAVE to run it, don't, it won't help any..
